Please grade my essay :D

Prompt:
”When making a decision of minor importance, I have always found it advantageous to consider all the pros and cons. In vital matters, however, the decision should come from the unconscious, from somewhere within ourselves. In the important decisions of personal life, we should be governed, I think, by the deep inner needs of our nature.”
– Adapted from Singmund Freud
Assignment: Should the most important decisions be made by truly trusting our inner feelings rather than by carefully considering all the issues? Write an essay in which you explain your opinions on this issue.

People face many important problems every day. And just like animals, out instincts often lead us to the right choices more than deep consideration does. When faced with important decisions, trusting our feelings, rather than considering all the pros and cons, can be more beneficial in making the right decisions. Just like in the deep jungles of Africa, the “prey” of the investment world must rely on their instincts to succeed.

In the movie, The Pursuit of Happyness, Chris Gardner (portrayed by Will Smith) is a very poor man who just wants to be able to support his family. After his wife leaves him and their son, Gardner is desperate in finding a job to earn some money. The movie proceeds on to tell the wonderful journey of Chris Gardner as he tries to be hired as a stock broker, and eventually succeeds.

The story is an inspiring one, but the ways he thinks and makes decisions are almost fictional. And throughout the whole film his choices were all vital; all his decisions, together, allowed him to be successful at the end. The decisions all came from his instincts. When he was released from jail, the first thing he did was sprint to a formal job interview in his shabby clothes. When his beloved X-ray machine was stolen, he ran all over San Francisco, in business attire, to catch the culprits. Or when he was homeless, and told his son that dinosaurs were chasing them and they had to sleep in a public restroom. All of these decisions were vital to his success, and he did not have a second to think of consequences.

Chris Gardner’s life hasn’t been easy at all, but through all of his choices and hard work was he able to finally succeed. Throughout his journey, he let his instincts do the talking and paid no attention to his conscious. But perhaps instinct is not the source of all of his success, maybe it was luck.

I’d give it an 8/12. You don’t go in depth too much about what the question is asking. You used one example (which is fine), but if you’re going to do that, you should be more thorough about it. Also, there are a few grammatical errors (last sentence is a comma splice). Your ending to the essay also seems to make your position ambivalent because you’ve introduced the “luck” factor but haven’t put any support to it.
