<pre><code> It is very important to question the ideas and decisions of people in positions of authority in order for any group or organisation to function right. Martin Luther King Jr. did question on the ideas of segregation through his speech titled “I have a dream”. Martin Luther who was a priest in Germany during the medieval era, challenged against the decayed Roman Catholic Church. Lastly, Also, in the book 1984, the hero questions on the party’s ideas which were absolute and authoritative.
Martin Luther King Jr. lived in 1960’s of the United States where segregation still existed between whites and other coloured people. As a black African-American, and a priest he didn’t have strong power and had to follow segregation laws. However, he challenged the ideas of the whites who were regarded as the superiors over the Negros by addressing his speech “I have a dream”. He said, “I have a dream that one day my little four children will not be judged by their colour but by the content of their characters…” His speech ignited the civil rights movement of black people and finally the United States could start to change for the better nation for coloured people. Thus, it was very important for Martin to question the ideas of the whites in authority to make a fairer society for those discriminated people.
Not only Martin of the United States but also another Martin Luther in Germany challenged against the authority, the Roman Catholic Church. He put “95 theses” on the wall; they were all the faults that the Roman Catholic had made, such as profiting unfairly by selling the paper of pardon and prohibiting ordinary people from getting knowledge of the holy Bible by reading it for themselves. Even though he was regarded as a heresy at first, his brave act made people realize that the authority was making mistakes. Finally, he led the Reformation making the Protestantism and made the Catholic Church to revive and purify itself. Thus, Martin’s questions about the authoritative Catholic Churches’ decisions were very important in the religion history because he revealed corruption of the Churches.
Also, in George Orwell’s book “1984” there is a hero Winston Smith who asks a question about the absurdity of the Party’s ideas. Actually, he finds out that the Party is using every method such as thought police, telescreens, speakwriters, and two minutes of hate to control people’s thoughts to get power over them. Winston Starts to rebel against the party with his lover Julia, and his supporter O’Brien. Finally, he does everything against the Party, but he cannot achieve subverting the Party. However, his courage behaviours leave hope for next generation. Thus, it was very important for Winston to question the authority’s decisions for the better society.
The questions against the authority lead the society to right way. Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech did. Martin Luther’s 95 theses brought the Reformation among decayed churches. Lastly, Winston Smith’s such an endeavour leaves the hope for the better world. Therefore, it is clear that it is very important to question even the authorities’ ideas.
