Is the way something seems always the way something is?

Deceit and lies are ubiquitous throughout society. They exist with the intention of providing hiding the hurtful truth and will continue to linger. For example, the country of Germany prior to WWII was all smoke and mirrors as was the United States’ recent attack on terrorism.
During the 1936 Olympics, Germany appeared to be a beautiful and extremely modern country with prideful patriotic citizens and an extremely powerful and effective leader in Adolf Hitler. Numerous tourists praised both the environment and the advanced architecture of Germany. However, their main applause was to Adolf Hitler and how he was remarkably forcing and strict yet humane and affectionate. The Berlin Olympics were a huge success and the world saw Germany as a destination for both tourism and residence alike.
However, the real situation in Germany was virtually unknown by the outsiders of the world. Few knew that Hitler was an extreme racist towards Jews. Few knew he ordered the extermination of nearly ten million Jews. Few knew half of his country lived in constant fear and in basement cells for years just to avoid death. The truth of the genocide committed by Hitler was hidden for several years before being uncovered.
Another country, the United States, also hid behind the covers of lies to hide the truth. After the infamous terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, the United States declared on an attack on terrorism internationally, which in the next decade, was shown through waged wars against Iraq and Afghanistan. However, while the public strongly supported the United States’ effort on terrorism abroad, little did they know about the actions taken by the government to deal with terrorism within.
Up until 2 years ago, virtually none of the American people knew what the government was performing in order to stop domestic terrorism. Edward Snowden, an NSA contractor, leaked that the NSA and the US government were using surveillance such as spying on the emails, phone calls, and financial records of average Americans and government officials to detect terrorism activity. As a result, distrust in the government grew to astronomical amounts.
The truth is precious, the truth is cherished yet it is constantly hidden away and ordered not to be shared with others. The constant presence of deception shown by people, the government, and even an entire country tell us not to jump to conclusions, it tells us to not immediately believe things at first sight, and it tells us that we should decide for ourselves and not allow other people to affect our opinion of legitimacy.

Thanks for your opinion!
