Is the government responsible of making sure their people lead healthy lives ?

The relationship between the governments and their people is just like the relationship of the parents and their children, same obligations and responsibilities. And as it’s the parents’ responsibility to make sure their children are as much as possible perfect in every side of their lives, including their health, it’s the governments responsibility to get their people healthy lives because, simply, both, parents and governments, had taken an oath of doing whatever they find is in the favor of their subjects.

Also no person denies that the governments’ main objective is leading their nations into success. However, even a child know that it’s impossible for a successful nation to emerge while lacking successful people, and it’s not covet that the peoples’ overall health is one of the most instrumental factors determining the thriving of a society. Therefore, it should be the governments’ goal to maintain the peoples healthy lives, in order to achieve what their primary objective, which their people share by the way, of having a successful nation.

Based on the previous point, it’s safe to compare the governments’ duty of fighting drugs and drug dealers with their duty of maintaining their peoples’ health. Actually, fighting drugs is just a sample of maintaining healthy lives! Considering the reason our governments’ fight drugs for, we would find that it’s drugs’ deleterious effect on people and, especially, the youth, which is destroying their lives after completely demolishing their health. In other words, if drugs were healthy, as is the case with some allowed drugs, the governments weren’t going to consider them illegal. So our governments " do " consider keeping their peoples’ lives healthy one of their obligations, but in an indirect way.

Even if just morality is considered, every person on earth is required to use whatever authority he or she has in order to prevent harm from reaching others as much as possible, even if they are the ones who bring themselves this harm ! This is simply because we are " human beings ". It’s a trait that’s carried on the humane universal genome. And having unhealthy lives is, as every one knows, one of the most harmful things that can occur to any person.

To reiterate, either officially or morally, it’s the governments’ responsibility to make sure their people lead healthy lives. Heaven only knows how people really need them to do so.
