Prompt Is it a disadvantage to pay attention to details

Life is full of information. There are obvious, important facts and elusive, little details.
Some people argue that paying attention to small details is brain-hurting and useless.
However, such view is very fallacious since if amassed together so called trivial
minutiae can make up a big picture. We can see this statement’s being true from
various examples from …

One case where paying attention to details made a large impact can be found from my
own experience. In high school I used to be a member of the biology Olympiad club and
participated in a lot of biology competition. After several competitions, I was selected
as one of the national finalists who would represent their country in International
Biology Olympiad. Science olympiads are different from standard science courses because
competitors are not asked to answer such easy questions as in high school. They are
expected to find answers that are elusive from questions that are filled with lots
of seemingly trivial details. Because I was able to pay attention those small details,
I was able to win a medal from the International Biology Olympiad.

Next case where little details played a large role is in the adventure of Harry Potter,
a fictional character from the world-renowned novel with the same name as the character.
In the first book of the novel, Harry is a greenhorn wizard who came to Hogwarts to
study wizardry and witchcraft. Not only Harry is special by birth, he is unique in that
he makes correct meaningful interpretations from seemingly elusive, insignificant events.
For example, when Harry reads a newspaper about an attempted theft in a well protected
bank, he realizes that the thief was trying to steal something from the same room as
Hagrid went the other day. He also finds out that the thing Hagrid retrieved from the
bank was the philospoher’s stone and is hidden in the 3rd floor of hogwarts, protected by
dark magics and labyrinthine tasks.

Finally, small trivias were important in the inspection of Sherlock Holmes, a detective
from the BBC tv series Sherlock. Sherlock is an infamous, high functioning sociopath
who detests mundane everday life and works as a freelance detective. He solves mysterious
crimes with his partner Doctor Watson. In of the cases, Sherlock finds ancient chinese
symbols in various places. Not knowing the meaning of those characters, he goes to
a museum and finds a woman who can decipher the code. Sadly, the woman dies before she
can interpret the code for him. However, Sherlock decodes the message from a insignificant
book called London A Z.

After closely analyzing instances from everyday life and literature, we can clearly see
that paying attention to details is very advantageous. It may be hard to focus on so many
little details but in the the end who knows, doing so might save your life.
