Should people make more of an effort to keep some things private? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.
I believe that people should not make an effort to keep their daily lives private because there are always benefits that comes with sharing. If one decides to keep some of their things private, they would be secluded from the outside world. Through a local public event and a personal experience, I exemplify why interacting and not keeping things private is beneficial in the long run.
One time, within the neighborhood I live in, there was a rather noisy and loud birthday party up the street. The birthday was for a kid who was turning 15 years of age. Similarly, my own birthday was the next week and I was not planning on having a birthday party. A couple of hours later, the birthday boy’s mother came to my house to ask if I wanted my birthday to be celebrated along with that of her son. I was very ecstatic at what she was trying to convey. With complete certitude, I accepted her offer and the next thing I knew, I was part of the birthday. In addition, I was given a cake of my own right next to that of the birthday boy. At first, I envied the birthday boy and the noise that the party had created within the neighborhood. However, I was able to benefit from this as an unintended effect to the fact that this event was held in a public setting.
During the 9th grade, I transferred to new schools and along with that, I had to make new friends, also called a fresh start. I was not one to be sociable instead, I was the direct opposite, a quiet and shy student who kept to himself. As a result of this, I never got to make any friends during that year and my 9th grade year was a mediocore experience compared to the rest of my high school years. After the 9th grade and into the 10th, I became more sociable by trying to greet my classmates everytime I see them and sitting next to them at the lunch tables. From then on, I was engaged in an interesting conversation with a classmate about whether the Lakers team would win tomorrow’s basketball game. As a result, I soon exposed myself and my private life to others and I got something beneficial out of it, a long-lasting friendship. If I had kept my life private in high school, I am sure that I would be fairly discontent all throughout it.
In conclusion, I truly believe that limiting oneself to keeping something private reaps less rewards than opening to the public. Although it is vital to keep some things private, communicating and sharing with others will open undiscovered opportunities in the future.
