Can success ever be disastrous

Success is one of the many discerning signs that a person is on the right track. Although many times success can be good, it can be the exact opposite. Success is the number one cause for greed, as can be see in the movie Wolf of Wall Street, where a successful man’s decisions lead to his imprisonment. This can also be seen in the book Hunger Games, in which if you are successful, everyone wants to kill you. In the movie 21, Ben takes his winnings as a sign that he is invincible and eventually loses it all. Success, while nice in the short run, is more of a detriment in the long run when the reason of the success is one that leads to greed.

First, in the movie Wolf of Wall Street, Jordan Belfort is a successful stock broker, who creates his own company. When one trade for shoes happens with Steve Madden , they get unbelievably rich. All this greed and the idea in his head that he, Jordan, can make much more leads him to make impulsive and fraudulent decisions. He gets involved in drugs because of his idea that all rich people drink and do drugs. He was having fun until the part where everything caught up to him and his life was ruined. Eventually, he gets arrested for the possession of drugs and all of the fraud activities he was involved in. Success to Jordan Belfort was the one thing that ruined his life for ever.

Next, in the book Hunger Games, 24 people are chosen from each district to play in an arena. they have to fight for everything including, water, shelter and food. Obviously the person who is the most successful- has the most food, water ETC- will the most hated on and the primary target for all the other players.
At one point in the game, The players from district 8 had the most resources, making them vulnerable. The players experienced an ephemeral feeling of fullness and satisfaction before the truth hit them: they were being chased. All the other teams ganged up and killed them. As can be can see here, success in the arena, makes the person a high target and eventually puts their life at risk.

Similar to Wolf of Wall Street, Ben Cambell in the movie 21 gets greedy after he wins big at a Las Vegas casino. Ben is a student at MIT and is asked to join the clandestine blackjack card counting team. The captain says 1 key phrase that he wants the team to remember, which without, they will lose: Do not let your feelings get in the way of the game. The Success Ben got made him greedy and did what exactly the captain told him not to. Because he stayed and kept playing even though he knew that he was going to get caught, he lost money. In this case, the cause of his success, money, was also the reason for his loss.

Success is not always good in the long run as can be seen in the movies 21, wolf of wall street and the book Hunger games. The characters in the movies and books got successful and then lost everything partly because of the feeling they got. In some cases, success is like candy. It makes you feel nice for a while, but later causes lots of problems.

Thanks in advance
