Is it necessary for people to combine their efforts with those of others in order to be most effective?
Ideas are simply manifestations of others ideas, and if you thought of it chances are someone else has too. Collaboration is the only way a goal is going to be met, and without collaboration society would fail to advance. George Washington nonpartisanship approach to politics illustrates the importance of collaborating with others and keeping an open mind. Likewise, Bill James, father of sabermetrics work combined with Billy Beanes daring attitude created a recipe of success. History and sports prove that it is necessary for people to combine their efforts with others to be successful.
George Washington was the first president of the United States, and he approached politics with an open mind. The first presidents cabinet consisted of people with conflicting views, an idea he felt was necessary and proper to maintain the system of checks and balances set in place. Washington was pragmatic, as he believed that everything he was for was not always the best option, an idea todays society has drifted away from. Setting the precedent of success would not have been possible if Washington claimed a political party, and therefore proved that combining the ideas of others is the only way to approach life. In Washingtons farewell address he predicted an ominous warning; political parties that avoid meshing ideas will lead to failure, which is proven true today as people vote only for their partys ideas.
Bill James combined his two loves, baseball and math. He coined the idea of sabermetrics, which made baseball a predictable and objective game. Billy Beane, the manager for the Oakland Athletics, adopted the ideas of James even though he was slandered maliciously. Although Beane was ridiculed he prospered with the lowest payroll in baseball, and he owes James for his successes. Without the polymerization of James and Beanes ideas the Oakland Athletics would be nothing more than a replica of past teams; however, Beane chose the road less traveled and he was rewarded. The Athletics had a 102-60 record and a payroll of $10 million, both unfathomable statistics while in the same sentence. Both the former and the latter are a direct result of Beanes combining his rigorous ambition with James farfetched theory.
Both Billy Beane and George Washington prove that a combination of ideas is essential to advance society. Although the opinions of others are sometimes impractical one must digress and consider their point of view. Without people like President Washington people would be self-centered and uneducated because considering others ideas is indeed the only way to formulate better resolutions to issues.
