Please Help A Desperate Student??

so i’m total financial idiot filling a Fedreal verification form for Emory University and i’m running into some problems.

Here’s the question

Funds received for child support and other untaxed income

a. Child Support
b. Social Security (non-taxed)
c. Welfare (including TANF)

And it asked for the amount of each.

Now can someone kinda explalin each term and what it’s really asking? What is TANF? Or at least can someone point me out and say where i can find the definition and info for each term?

TANF
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
[glossary](http://www.finaid.org/questions/glossary.phtml</a>)

Sybbie will correct me if I’m wrong, but these items should be put on the form for the person RECEIVING them. For example, if the parent receives child support and welfare, that would NOT go on the student income line. If the student has a child and receives child support for that child, it would go on the student line. I believe these items are included on the spots for the parent if the parent received them, and on the spots for the student if the student received them.

a. Child Support

This is asking…did you receive child support payments from an ex spouse during 2006 and if so, how much?

b. Social Security (non-taxed)
This is asking, did you receive social security benefits…that were not taxed…and if so, how much?

c. Welfare (including TANF)
This is asking, did you receive any welfare benefits, and if so, how much?

All numbers are for what you received during 2006. For b, c you should have received some kind of statement to use for your taxes. For a, you should have bank deposit records or something that shows the amount you received.

you are not a total idiot, because if the school asks for the form your financial aid information is incomplete unless you comply.

Thumper pretty much summed the defintions up well. If none of these things pertain to you, just write n/a or check the box that states no, you are not receiving any of the following, mail the form back and keep things moving (take a breath and relax)

If you are receiving child support, the school may want the financial information of the non-custodial parent.
