I would like to to study BME undergrad, and follow it up with med school or dental school. Can anyone who has experience with BU’s BME program comment on it? I’m also concerned about the grade deflation I’ve been hearing about.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Grade deflation is way overblown. I have never gotten a grade at BU that I felt I didn’t deserve. At a school full of high acheiving students, not everyone can get all A’s. So when people come and do the same type of work theyve been doing, and they don’t get A’s, they get upset about it. At least, that’s my view on it. I’ve just personally never ever experienced it and that is the honest truth.

There have been other threads about BME. Search for them. It’s a tough major and there’s attrition - not mandatory, meaning that people fail out but I assume people switch, some because they find they prefer other things, some perhaps because they’re not as competitive in that major. There is no grade deflation. BU has had a slightly lower rate of increase in grades than the average private school but no lowering. I suspect the private school numbers are themselves inflated because smaller private schools have seen larger increases than larger ones.

I don’t imagine anyone knows about Tulane’s programs in this forum. The cities are completely different places, so you need to consider that.
