Please Help(Gpa weighted to unweighted)

Very confused

Hello,

A college I got accepted to said my 3.88 weighted gpa was a 3.1 on a unweighted. However, something is not right I think. I calculated it myself and I got a 3.6 uw gpa.

The only reason I could think of why this happened is class rigor.

grades:

9th Grade

English 1 → B+ 1 credit

Global Studies 1H → B+ 1 credit

Integrated Math 1 → A- 1 credit

Biology → A- 1 credit

Latin 2H → A- 1 credit

-–

10th Grade

English 2 → B+ 1 credit

Global Studies 2H → B- 1 credit

Integrated Math 2H → C+ 1 credit

Chemistry → A- - 1 credit

Latin 3H → A- - 1 credit

-–

11th Grade

English→ A - 1 credit

US History → A -1 credit

Integrated Math 3 → A - 1 credit

Some colleges take your gpa off the transcript. Some recalc.

If you used no ±, you’d have

18 points for year on 5 classes

16 points on 5 classes 2nd year

16 points on 4 in 11th.

So 50/14 =3.571

Now some may not count 9th. Some may do a +.33 or -.33 for +/- but it wouldn’t make you a 3.1.

Ask the college that have you a 3.1 how they calculated it. You want to ensure they have the right # for merit.

Glad they accepted you. Congrats.

What college talks to you about your specific GPA calculation and how did this come about?

On the face of what you’ve listed there, it doesn’t add up. You didn’t give the grade for the dual enrollment course - might it be that? But the only real answer you’re going to get is from the college itself.

Also curious to know which college communicates its recalculated GPA.

Some colleges will show their GPA calc in the applicant’s portal. I know Miami Ohio used do this, others probably do too. Hope OP answers!

I know some schools recalculate core only, but all the courses listed above would be considered core, correct?

Yes, maybe not the DE courses from the tech CC though (depends on the course) and schools will vary on that regardless. Similar to PLTW courses, some schools count those as core, some don’t.
