There’s one more chance to retake in January and I’m not sure if I should work to improve my SAT I scores or my SAT II scores. Currently I have:

SAT Reasoning:
780 CR / 760 M / 740 W –> 2280

SAT Subject Tests:
MathIIC - 750
Literature - 700
French Language - 770
World History - 700

I know if I actually study this time I can probably make a 2350+ in the SAT Is. Similarly I’m looking to boost my MathIIC and Lit to 770+. I might take US History too and get 750+ on that.

My question is, would it be better to have a 2350+ in SAT I, or would it be more worthwhile to increase my Math and Lit scores to 770+ and take US History to get 750+? I’m applying to HYP, so any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Honestly, if I were you, I wouldn’t bother redoing either. Since you’re at 2280, it’s tempting to try to scale 2300, but your score distribution is actually really good (1540 CR + M).

But then again, you are looking at HYP. I’d probably go with SAT IIs, if anything. Try to get 800 on IIC (easy with a bit of studying because of the wonderful curve), 750+ on Lit. Really, though, 99% of colleges would be thrilled to have you (assuming all other components are in order).

It looks to me like you are obsessing about who has the highest score among your friends. While your SAT is very important to potential colleges, so are your grades, your extra curriculars and your character. I would spend the time you have focusing on finding the 6-8 colleges you have the most interest in, and where you will do your best and be the happiest, researching the finer points of each school from their programs and course offerings, their faculty and facilities and the type of students who typically attend those schools. That is time well spent.

You have already scored extremely well. Be happy and move on to the next stage.

Another vote here for not retaking anything. Your scores are excellent – if you don’t get into HYP it will not be because your scores were too low.

Why would you retake it! Those are great scores, but if you feel you can go higher…then shoot for the stars…hopefully you dont fall down to earth again. Its all up to you, your scores are great!
