please help me :( (.2 GPA difference)

my gpa will be 3.58 by the beginning of senior year but the nyu average gpa is a 3.6.
will a .2 difference matter THAT much?
do you think it’d be worth it to take two summer schools classes that are each 5 hours long
(daily), for two months ( one month = one class)?
or… should I focus on other things?

I speak only in general, since I have no experience of NYU, but IMO, the difference is very small, and close enough that it shouldn’t be that much of an issue if you have other qualities and experiences that the school will value. My guess is that if you have some wonderful internship opportunity or unique trip to take this summer, for example, that would help you stand out, and it would be great to take advantage of that. Otherwise, take a class and ace it - show that you take the initiative to challenge yourself.

I agree. The GPA difference is significant enough to make or break your application. If you can find something productive to do during the summer like work or perhaps an educational summer camp or really anything that might be impressive to colleges like community service, that’d be best. Of course, if you were thinking about sitting around watching TV and going to the beach all summer, you might as well take some summer courses.

that’s .02 not .2 lol

Ignore Generalgao’s comment. Being .02 off the average GPA does not mean a damn thing. That average means that 50% of our students are above it and 50% are below it. You fall at the utmost top end of that lower half. Relax. Kids with far worse GPAs have been accepted.

Maybe you should focus on your math skills if you think you’re .2 off the average. Cheer up. Stop stressing. Since you mention applying at the beginning of senior year I can see that you’re thinking of ED, so just keep in mind that they’re more forgiving with ED applicants compared to RD.

mah bad, guess I should proofread. “The GPA difference isn’t significant enough to make or break your application.” is what it should have been. That’s why I said “I agree” to the previous comment saying that the difference isn’t much of an issue. Sorry about that.

oh ahah lol I mean .02 lol

oh and thank you for all the responses :)
