Please help me... I'm so nervous for RD

Would you please chance me for RD for George Washington University for the RD 2015 pool? I’m so scared and I just want to know about CC’s opinion…

Hi I’m Asian student who goes to a international school in Japan. My parents are Japanese but I was born in the States so I have dual US-Japanese citizenship. I currently go to a international school.

GPA UW grade 12: 3.3
GPA W:3.8
GPA UW grade 11: 3.14
GPA W grade 11: 3.57
EC: Choir, Jazz Band (section leader), Senior Band (section leader), Honor Band, Basketball (coach’s award), Student Council (class vp in 11th grade and president for 12th grade), Global Issues Network (president)
I also play tennis outside of school, take trumpet private lessons, and volunteer at a elderly home facility.

I take the IB diploma
HL English Language and Literature
HL World History
HL Economics
SL Math
SL Spanish
SL Biology
Theory of Knowledge

I took 2 APs because my school only offers two… It was a self study for 2 months
5 on English Language and Literature
and 2 for macro econ (planning to take it again)

SAT Super score: 1950
CR:600
M:720
W:630

Sat subject test: 790 Japanese listening and writing
planning to take world history

Awards: Harvard Book Prize
Merit awards for History x2
Merit award religious studies

I believe my personal essay was good because I talked about my struggle of being Japanese but not being able to speak Japanese when I first moved from the United States to Japan. I am now able to view both countries as my home but at the same time, I can look at them from a foreigner’s perspective.

I want to study international relations and I believe my previous experiences and my exposure to the international environment of my international school will be appealing to universities.

I’d like to help but I don’t think I know enough about IB programs and how their difficulty ranks to AP/honors courses here in the States. Some of your GPAs are a little lower than what I suspect of the average applicant but that only matters as it’s related to course difficulty.

Your test score looks to be average, though. I got in with a similar score. Also, you have a fairly diverse set of ECs.

Again, it’s really tough to say, but if I had to make a rather uncertain guess I’d say you have a slightly below average shot. This is purely because I don’t understand IB. If it’s something known to be rigorous I’d say you have at least an average shot.

Thank you for the reply Nhuffer!
IB is a VERY rigorous program…
I’m kind of discouraged now after seeing my chances…
I love GWU and it’s my favorite school… I’m going to be very disappointed if I don’t get in…

Don’t be discouraged- I’m only an alum that likes to help prospective students. I’m not on the admissions committee, and I’m not too familiar with the process for international applicants.

Stay positive! It seems like you don’t have much longer to hear!
