Please help me out! SAT II chemistry or AP chemistry to be self-studied?

Hello everyone :)

I’m a junior and I’m planning on majoring in materials science or molecular biology. However I did not take chemistry in IGCSE. Currently I’m taking the IB diploma with the following subjects:
•Biology HL
•Physics HL
•ITGS HL
•Maths HL
•Spanish Ab Initio SL
•English Lang&Lit SL

As you can see, I do not study chemistry. Therefore, in order to have some kind of qualification in chemistry I was planning on self-studying it. However, I’m not sure if it is better to study AP chemistry or just prep for the SAT II.

Can you please tell me:
•How long it takes to self-study AP/SAT II chemistry
•How hard it is
•Will I need lab experience?

It is really important! I’m planning on applying to Cornell CoE ED new year, and they require 1 unit of chemistry!

Thank you :)

You don’t need lab experience. If Cornell requires a unit for Chem, I don’t know if SAT II can suffice for that. Self studying AP Chemistry is better, and it is fairly difficult. No you don’t actually need lab experience, just get some prep books and they tell you all you need to know. Lots of calculations, equations, and memorizing.

Thank you! I have asked a similar question on the Stanford forum but they were saying that is fairly easy. Well, they are from Stanford so…

Some more input please
