“When Napoleon retreated from Russia, he was about to lose the war”, I said it as I helped a student to review for an upcoming history exam.
I tutor students. It started when I went to a tutoring session for elementary students as a freshman. The children are fun to work with was the only thing in my mind.
Then I was unable to attend the sessions for two weeks. I expected no one to remember me; I thought children are forgetful.
I was proven to be wrong when Emily, who I had been working with, ran into my arms to show how much she missed me. It melted my heart.
I began to reconsider the purpose of tutoring. If I just want to help others, there are various activities I can be involved in, so why tutoring?
I did not know, I did not know even when I nodded to a teacher’s request to tutor a high school ESL student. I just went with it and the introduction happened.
It did not hit me until he came back with an 88 on his test, a huge grin on his face, and a shaking voice due to his excitement. Because academic success matters to those who work hard so their potentials are not meaningless. Because even with language barriers, one can accomplish one’s goals through endeavor. Because achievements build up confidence and motivation. Because that is how I felt moving from a C to an A student.
So I found something to dedicate to besides school work: tutoring so I can turn my knowledge into a tool to aid in the successes of my peers. The learning is not one-way, I matured as I became more patient, respectful, and open-minded. And the most significant returns among all are the pride and delight my tutees share with me.

thank you so much for reading it!

here is the other essay for this college
explain your academic interests or strengths, you can include any majors you are currently considering(300 words)

Growing up, I am always interested in sciences. My dream was to become a psychologist since I heard of this career. Somehow my little 10-year old brain conceptualized that mental illnesses outweighed physical diseases. So I want to help people to overcome their invisible pain. Here I am, more than ready to chase after my dream, I started to question myself: how could I know that psychology is the best for me without seeing other options?
To answer this question, I decide to take the advantage of being undeclared. However, I do have other majors in mind. A career journal I wrote about dietitian in my biomedical class inspired me to possibly major in dietetics. First, I like to monitor my diet so my body receives sufficient nutrition. Since diet is the cornerstone of one’s health, I believe that we as a society need to move toward healthy diets and I am eager to be a contributing force to it. After narrowing down my choices, I am taking AP Biology and AP Chemistry this year; both are retable courses that provide me with a foundation of dietetics.
Perhaps the most different major on my list goes to human resource management, the only non-science related area. But the science of human interaction and communication in a business manner intrigues me. It requires heavy planning and executive actions, which are skills I possess and feel passionate about as I find myself involved in various activities outside of classroom. My completion of AP Statistics and progresses in AP Calculus and AP Psychology further add on my desire to enter the major of human resource management.
With these possibilities in mind, undeclared is the right way to go. I am eager to find the right path for me, as much as I am willing to utilize my potentials to the maximum.

this is 307 words thank you in advance for reading it! i know i should probably pm them but as the deadline is approaching i really dont have the time to wait. i dont think anyone wants to copy from my essays anyway lol
