Please help me, what are my chances, how bad is this?

My grades are starting to worry me. My freshman year, first semester, I did okay, then my grades went downhill from there. I used to be the kind of student who cried at a B, and I got two Cs my sophomore year. This isn’t an excuse, but I have been diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety and depression. I’m a lesbian kid from a muslim family. My personal life is a bit all over the place - I’m actually not the worst at managing it, I’m not unstable (anymore) but school is just harder for me than it used to be, especially with insane test anxiety and trouble focusing in class. I want to go to a college in California (home state). I’ve been thinking of going to IVC and then transferring into UCLA or Occidental. I really want to go to Los Angeles ASAP for many, many reasons that I can’t cover here. I feel like the only thing I have going for me at this point is extracurriculars, because I intend to be a music major and I’m heavily involved in the arts at my school. Is there any way for me to go from high school straight into a college in LA?

UCLA and Occidental so far look to be reaches. If you can really up your grades junior and senior year and write about the reasons for the slips in your college essays, you may be admitted. I would suggest looking closely at LMU, which is also in LA.

I don’t understand why you are taking AP US History. This is a tough class. You do not look like you want to load up on hard classes. I think that you would be better off trying to get more As, and trying to eliminate the C’s.

If you love music then I can see why you want to take AP music theory. Do not expect it to be easy. The best musician that I have ever met (she really is superb) was also a great student in high school (two B+'s in her first three years of high school, both 89’s, otherwise straight A’s). She found AP music theory to be a lot of work. She also loved it. If you love music then you should take this class, but expect it to be a lot of work.

I think that you should work very hard next year and try to pull up your GPA. Then see where you are a year from now. Take it one semester at a time.
