Please help me...

My decision is between UCLA and UC Berkeley. I love the location of berkeley…I like the downtown feel. I love the fact that I can walk around the city and take a shuttle to SF. However, UCLA isn’t bad either…I live in San diego which is maybe 2 hours away from UCLA so I would be able to drive home. I would go to Berkeley but what is hindering me from going is that I will have to apply for med school and will need at least a 3.7. Does anyone know if getting a 3.7 would be as hard at UCLA as it is at Berkeley? Is berkeley a lot harder than UCLA? btw my major is biochem but i think i will change to integrated biology…how hard is it to change to IB?

To drive home from UCLA, you need a car. Either someone is going to drive you with them (such as a friend or your parents picking you up), or you’re doing it. This is a big pain in Westwood, and can be expensive (particularly in the first year if you rent a space). Flying home from local airports to SD is short from Berkeley (1.5 hours or so, I believe). UCLA is nice, though, certainly.

I’m not sure about difficultly. I imagine that getting a 3.7 will be fairly tough at either school as a biochem or biology major taking classes with many pre-meds. Also, the quarter system might be easier or difficult for you than the semeseter system, and I think this is a factor of difficulty. I’ve heard a few stories or UCLA being easier than Cal, but most people have no real experience, so it’s hard to tell.
