Please Help: Need ONE more school

I’d like to add one more high match/low reach school and would love some suggestions. My stats are:

SAT: 2050 (650CR, 680M, 720W)
SAT II: US Hist (730); Spanish (680)
GPA: 3.9 UW
Class Rank: 5/560 (top 1%)
Other Tests: AP World Hist (5); AP Span Lang (5); AP Eng Lang (5); AP Psych (5); APUSH (4)
Senior Classes: AP Bio, AP Calc AB; AP Eng Lit; AP Econ; AP Gov
Awards: National Hispanic Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction
ECs: Varsity Cheerleading 4 years (capt 3 years, national champion team 2 years, lots of cheer awards); Varsity Gymnastics 2 years (state champion team member); Class VP; Spanish Club Pres; Summer internship at hospital; job coaching gymnastics; tons of community service

Looking for:
Warm climate (although I wouldnt mind 4 seasons if the winters aren’t too terrible)
Good pre-med program
Smallish classes
Lots of school spirit/unity
Preferably pretty campus :)

Furman? It seems to meet everything.

Rice might be a good fit. Take a look at Haverford too, just outside Philadelphia (it’s part of a 3 school consortium with Swarthmore and Bryn Mawr, so not as small at it looks at first glance.)

Davidson or Rollins?

Thanks, everyone! Rice is actually my dream school and I have applied, but with my SAT I’m not counting on getting in. Just hoping for a miracle!

Furman was once on my list, and I’m not really sure why I took it off but maybe I should take another look.

I’ve never looked into Davidson or Rollins… will go check them out. Thanks for the suggestion!

Any more…?

William and Mary, University of Richmond, Villanova

I will second Furman. They have great research and internship opportunities with the nearby hospitals and a very strong pre-med track. Their Chemistry program is one of the best in the nation. Davidson is also a great suggestion and is considered one of the best LAC’s in the country. Good luck to you!

How about Wake Forest or Elon?

Occidental, Santa Clara, Scripps, Pitzer.

I would second Wake and Elon. You might also like Pepperdine.

Might look at Holy Cross(not warm weather) but nice campus 1 hour from Boston. Holy Cross has one of the better pre-med programs with very high med school acceptance rates. HC has small class sizes and competes in highly selective Patriot League where Holy Cross plays most Ivies in the major sports. HC has very good alumni network for jobs and has a January 15th application due date.

Rhodes might be a possibility.

I would second the Rhodes suggestion, know a pre-med student there who loves the research and internship opportunities, close knit community etc.

Three LAC’s you might consider are:

Hendrix (Arkansas): liberal counterpart to Rhodes. Trees everywhere, with cool-looking old buildings and sidewalks and lamps on poles. The first time I stepped on campus it reminded me of Narnia. Odyssey program allows you to custom-design an overarching individual project to meet your interests and motivation.

Austin (an hour north of Dallas): Open campus, nicely landscaped, fountains everywhere, gigantic new science building opening Fall 2013. CI courses and Jan term offerings add an element of whimsy to the curriculum. A variety of housing options after freshman year spans the range from on-campus dorms to independent off-campus living. They also offer an amazing range of study abroad options from three weeks long up to a full year.

Southwestern (40 minutes north of Austin): I’m not as familiar with Southwestern as I am with the others, but these three schools compete for many of the same students, and also compete in athletics, so it felt like an omission to mention the others but not Southwestern. Southwestern has a merit aid calculator on their web site – simply enter your stats and find out what your merit award will be. Check out their Paideia program while you’re there.

All of these schools have small classes and good records of placing students in med schools, and you should find yourself comfortably placed among the student body in any one of them.

We had a great visit at Southwestern. Beautiful campus and some very nice academic programs. You can read more about it in the “Colleges That Change Lives” book or website. It is my son’s favorite choice for an LAC.

Visited Austin College multiple times, my son was accepted but didn’t go but his best friend did. Not as pretty as Southwestern but very nice student center with an awesome fireplace (for Texas). Very strong January term with lots of international travel. Also very active model UN program. Great for pre-med. My sister went to med school at Southwestern in Dallas and said the Austin College grads really stood out. Also very good merit money and financial aid.
