I had initially applied to NYU Stern as an ED applicant and then had it switched to ED II so I could resubmit my SAT scores (superscore is now 690M 710CR 790W) but my Math SAT II was low (640). I recently retook my Math SAT II and now its a 760. Would my chances of getting in be higher now or if I requested to be moved to the RD pool which would allow me to send them my SAT II Scores?

Another big issue that has come up is that both of my parents will be laid off soon. I want to do chemical engineering now anyways, but if I got in ED II but couldn’t pay for it, would it be easy for me to get out of going to NYU because I couldn’t afford it. Has anyone you know done that before?

Change to RD NOW. Never never never apply ED to NYU if you can’t afford it. Some people have gotten out of it, but others couldn’t. You DO NOT want 200k in debt, or no other options to go to college this year.

I would move to the RD pool for both the issues you just brought up. I’ve heard that you shouldn’t even submit a Math SAT II to Stern unless you have at least a 700, so I would definitely switch to RD because a 760 is a major improvement. Also, to back out of an ED agreement you have to have filled out the FAFSA form before. I’ve heard it’s been done before, so don’t panic. Also, why did you apply to Stern if you want to do chemical engineering?

thanks for your responses fireman and billymc.

fireman, I initially wanted to major in finance because I wanted to work on Wall St. or in a management role for a biotech firm. But I realized after I applied to NYU that I would prefer doing chemical engineering to work in a biotech firm and then get an MBA and move up to a management role.
