So I am a freshman applying to USC to transfer. I know I have a great chance of getting in (I got in before) but the reason Im doing it now is so I can finally get a merit scholarship so I can attend my dream school. The problem is, my housing contract is DUE IN A WEEK at my current institution right now. If I sign it and choose not to attend the school in the fall, I will still owe the place of residence $10,000!!! I dont know what to do or how high my chances are of getting a full scholarship. Does anyone know when they usually notify transfer applicants about scholarship interviews? Any suggestions on what to do?

Lol are you sure you’d still have to pay $10K if you don’t live there? There’s usually a termination fee, which is a small portion of the full amount, around $200 in your case.

For some schools, notification of merit awards are included with the acceptance letter. Call and ask USC admission’s office how and when they notify transfer students of merit scholarships.

wow that’s absolutely RIDICULOUS if you are responsible for the 10k. at my school, I’ll just lose $105. You should definitely talk to someone in your housing department just to make sure.

Your current school already knows you’re looking to transfer so I would try asking them for an extension on signing the housing contract. There’s a good chance they’ll give it to you. You might contact your proposed new school first so you know how long an extension to ask for.

If attending the transfer school is only possible if you are offered a full scholarship, I recommend putting down the housing deposit and staying at your current school. Your transfer school doesn’t offer full merit scholarships to transfers.

Did you read the link in my previous post? Did you submit the supplemental scholarship applications to your transfer school before the deadlines (see link)? Did you read the approximate academic stats for transfer students considered for scholarships?

Again, USC does not offer any full merit scholarships to transfer students.
