PLEASE HELP! Will I get thrown out of my college?

I am from Nigeria and have applied to several universities like UIUC, Georgia tech, purdue, penn state, maryland-college park and have gotten into all of them. In my college activities section, I had written a false activity which I was not even involved in. So what if these colleges try to verify this activity by contacting my high school? Will I get expelled or something? Will they come to know about this?
Reminding, I am already accepted in all of these schools. thanks

Definitely yes, if they find out.

First of all, you’re gambling with your future. If the college gets to know about it, you’ll be rescinded immediately. Misrepresentation is not tolerated in colleges even the slightest bit.

The only hope you now have is if the college won’t come to know about it. It is a sad truth that most of the colleges cannot cross-check each applicant’s activities. Hence, you may get away with it, having stolen some other more qualified applicant’s future from them.

Personally, I cannot think of any reason that may make someone lie on their application and fall so low to gain admission. It was a very shallow thing to do.

The universities most probably won’t come to know about this. But, if they do contact your high school anytime in the future also, and they find out that you lied, you WILL be thrown out and expelled with a deaf ear to hear your excuses.

It was rather reckless for you to mention the colleges by name, and to specify your home country. Many admissions professionals post on this site, and they can easily flag this and contact those universities. They are huge colleges, and do not have the time or resources to check every student’s activities, but they might well have the time to investigate all admitted Nigerian students.

It is sad that the activity likely did not make a difference to get you in, but now you are a position of providing false information. When students do that they can have consequences any time this is discovered. You can have admission rescinded, be expelled and even have diploma cancelled. Colleges here do not want students that have the sort of lack of character that prompts them to lie to get what they want and they will not trust a student not to cheat and lie when attend university so if it is discovered yes, you will possibly be out of there. It calls into question everything on your application and everything you do. How can anyone ‘help’? What is there to help with?

How difficult do you think would be for colleges to search parameters: Nigeria and international applicant - to find you?

All they have to do is a phone call away.

Yep, that was pretty stupid, sorry. Why did you post this ? But honestly, if it’s not a major thing, it probably didn’t even matter in your app. If it’s an activity like Varsity tennis 2 years, or Math club, they probably didn’t even notice it.
But if you lied about winning the fields medal then it’s a problem haha

They probably would not find out if you hadn’t posted this.

Not only can they throw you out, if you graduate and they find out later, they can rescind your diploma. How could they find out? If they run across your post (probably unlikely) or if any of the rejected students who read CC happen to forward the information to them (more likely). How great is the possibility of that happening? None of us can know for sure.

Yep, you screwed up.

If you’re accepted for a job/internship offer and they find out that you falsified information, that can be grounds for immediate dismissal.

Realistically there’s no proof of identity on this post. So he will always be able to deny.

This sort of thing is why I’m opposed to the admission of more and more internationals into US colleges. The amount of fraud in foreign applications is a real problem–in some countries, hiring consultants to phony up applications is common among the wealthy–and it’s too hard for admissions officers to distinguish the real from the fake. Realistically, OP’s fraud will never be discovered, and it’s a real shame we have to open our doors to him.

@MommaJ donc forget a lot of internationals pay full ride which helps a lot to finance lower in-state tuitions.

There’s nothing you can do now, but you should definitely realize you screwed up. Lying on a college application is a very punishable offense and it can definitely lead to colleges rescinding your offer. You seem like a unique applicant that stands out (you’re an international from Nigeria) and you named the colleges you applied to.

There is a strong chance they will find out now.

You were accepted to UMD, which is my state school. Many of my friends were completely crushed that they were not accepted for Fall 2015, but at least they were HONEST with their applications. There are a lot of people who were rejected/wait listed who deserve your spot more than you do - at all the universities that you were accepted to.

As someone already mentioned, it’s pretty easy for them to go verify the information of all the Nigerian international students. It can’t be that many international students from Nigeria. How do you know that a rejected student won’t forward this information to an adcom? Who knows - it may or may not happen.
