please help!

hi! i have a few questions regarding University of Southern California:

I am participating in a "John F. Kennedy Profiles in Courage Essay Contest" will this help for USC?

Last year I started my own troop support charity fund, will USC regard this highly?

How good is the Political Science Program at USC?

Do I have the upper hand admission-wise because I am from Boston, and there are probably not many massachusetts students that attend USC?

THANKS!

1) Participating would not help for admissions. Receiving an award would be listed in your awards on your application. Awards help in admissions, but the real keys are excellent transcript and test scores. (If you do not receive an award, you would not list that you entered the competition.)

2) That sounds like a good community service project - hopefully you have kept good records of the project and the results. You might even write about it in an admissions essay. Again, this would be something that would complement an excellent academic record.

3) I am not familiar with that department - there may be someone who pops in with some info.

4) Massachusetts is listed on the Freshman Profile http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/0910/FreshmanProfile2009.pdf as one of the top states in terms of students attending USC, so probably not. (Only about half of USC students are from California.)
