please,I'm quite confused and would appreciate any info/advice... trying to choose between Purdue Indianapolis ,Drexel,Spelman and Rose Hulman for computer Science. Purdue Indy I'm realizing is different from Main campus. any advice? [international]

she is an international student and received gift aid for Drexel bringing her fees down to 53k,RoseHulman is down to 58k while Purdue and Spelman are 56k and 54 respectively.
Program-wise,school life -wise? after school employability,co-ops and internship-wise, any insight? thanks

Are all affordable?

And yes, Purdue acceptance is not at the main campus which is a negative.

Your D should plan on returning back to your home country after graduation.

Very different schools. What is she interested in studying?

Very very different schools…Drexel is a co op school in a city, Rose is tiny and rural, Purdue Indy is in the city and not main campus which is an hour away, and Spelman is a HB women’s college in Atlanta. What is your daughter looking for?

And as noted, the job market in the US for CS grads is getting tighter, especially for international students, and your daughter should consider which school will be more marketable in your home country.

Well it says Computer Science. Rose Hulman is very well respected. It has like a 70/30 Male /Female ratio but the females tend to be close fit. It’s engineering 24/7 on a very small campus.

Saying that they have great outcomes. Also I have personally known students that got into MIT and went to Rose. A few of them actually.

This would be my pick if engineering is what she wants to do but be aware there isn’t a lot more choices at Rose but they do have some interesting minors and other programs.

So, they are relatively affordable but I want to be sure that we are making the right decision especially because we are international. The way schools are appraised in the US is different for us here. Rankings matter a great deal especially the world ranking for the program. when the kids come back to the country with their degree, this is where the name and ranking come to play. But, not being in the US to carry out the visits, ask questions about school life and possibility for Co ops and the like is quite concerning.

Indeed…Rose is interesting but slightly higher in cost and not well known on the international stage…I know kids that went there and Ive heard great things about it.
how do I justify Rose?

computer science for all the schools.
I really have no way of knowing which school will be more marketable in my home country except for using the national or world rankings or reputation/name of school. I am quite concerned though about the actual program in the school(s). that’s the insight I’m looking to get in the way of perhaps personal experiences and the like.

The degree from Purdue Indy will be the same degree as main campus. But, the student experience will be very different. I would encourage your student to ask about how Purdue Indy students are supported for co-op (which is optional at Purdue) and how they access the career fair and co-op fairs.

If work experience is of most important, Drexel is the the only one with a built in co-op.

Does your daughter have a preference for urban vs rural campuses? Small schools vs large school?

thanks. I will do that

she would prefer a small school,i believe.

small school

Then Rose wins IMO.

Unfortunately, this is impossible for everyone. One can only guess and hope.

If I were international, I’d go Drexel - as it’s in the city. Alternatively Spelman but I don’t know about its CS department. Small - then Spelman.

RHIT is strong but being in an isolated place in a foreign country doesn’t seem a good idea to me.

I think this just did.

I don’t have first hand information, but from what I read my understanding is that students accepted to Purdue can choose either the main campus in West Lafayette or the extension campus in Indianapolis. You may have been assigned to the Indianapolis campus because you inadvertently checked this box on your application. If you prefer the main campus, I suggest that you contact the Admissions Office and request to be reassigned to that campus.

I don’t believe it is that straight forward, especially for CS which historically is closed even for WL students wanting to change majors and transfers.

If name recognition is important, I think Purdue is the only one known overseas. Even in the US many people never heard about Spelman or Rose Hulman, or even Drexel.
