Please Make Up Your Mind Already!

<p>I would greatly appreciate suggestions from seasoned parents on surviving the next few weeks while we wait for our son to make his college choice.</p>

<p>And navigating the fine line between helpful advice and annoying bias while he mulls this over.</p>

<p>It’s a minefield. Help him or her talk through the issues on his or her own terms, at a relaxed time of the week, such as Sunday brunch.</p>

<p>The kids are taking baby steps in a circular pattern, finding out about themselves and how they fit out the world. Don’t get too far ahead of them, and don’t use your experience or money as clout. If there is a topic that needs attention, try bringing it up briefly, then revisit it in a week. </p>

<p>Accept that they are going to make some wacky decisions, and wait until the last minute. Focus on what’s most important. Also, resign yourself in that your opinion may not measure up to their peers’ (but surely you’re used to this.)</p>
