<p>Could I get into Exeter, Andover, or UWC? (Last time I submitted this post NOBODY replied.)
United World College is my first preference, but Exeter and Andover sound great too. I would be applying for my junior year, the 2012-2013 school year, and I’m a sophomore now. I’m a white 15 year old girl.
-I have a GPA of 4.57 on a 5.0 scale (3.66 on a 4.0 scale). I’ve gotten all A’s all my life, save the occasional B or B+ in Math.
-8th grade year, I was Student Body President and Team Captain for the school’s Relay for Life team. (I don’t think this stuff will count, but hey, what have I got to loose for adding it?)
-Last year I was in the French Club and the Drama club.
-This year I’m in the French Club, Drama Club, Rotary Interact Club, and I’m the Class Historian, and working on starting an Art Club and a Book Club. I’m also applying for National Honors Society.
-I taught myself HTML and CSS (web coding languages) when I was around 10 or 11 and now know it fluently. I’m also really into graphic design and webdesign.
-I’ve been independently studying Portuguese for about four years (but I’m nowhere near fluent =/). I hope to travel to Brazil, and someday, all around the world. Ultimate plan = Peace Corps after high school or college.
-I was accepted into New Mexico School for the Arts last year for visual arts-- but I couldn’t go.
-I’ve participated in National Novel Writing Month for the last three years, and reached the 50,000 word goal every time.
-I have a huge passion for writing prose and poetry, and also for visual arts and world culture and language.</p>
<p>I’m from New Mexico, so I think this will be in my favor for Exeter and Andover. I don’t think this will mean anything for UWC, though, because UWC USA is IN Montezuma.</p>
<p>I’m on very good terms with all of my teachers, and I’m confident I could write convincing essays, etc.</p>
<p>Do you think I could get into UWC, Exeter, or Andover? I want this so, so, so bad.</p>
<p>And if you don’t think I could do it, what do you think I could do to better prepare for the application?</p>
<p>I think you’re a great applicant grade-wise and EC-wise. But just keep in mind that those aren’t the only important things…the essays and interview are probably even more important. Don’t screw those up. And good luck!</p>
<p>Thanks for the reply! And I will definitely keep in mind how important the other aspects of the application are – trust me!</p>
<p>Humm. I’ve changed my mind. I’m not applying to UWC or Andover anymore. Would Exeter place any weight on the fact that I’m choosing not to back myself up with a different school, in case I don’t get in? IE, would they think “Maybe she’s only applying to Exeter because all of the rest of the schools rejected her …”</p>
<p>I ask because it has been bothering me lately. Is it in your favor to apply to more than one school?</p>
<p>Thanks for the replies.</p>
<p>Im applying only to Andover, with no backups. I know two girls who applied to other schools with no backups, and and they both got in. IE, i don’t see why theres any favor in applying to more than one school. What was your SSAT score?</p>
<p>having backups is actually a great idea.
and no, if you are applying to one school, it won’t raise your chances because:
THEY DON’T KNOW! (unless you explicitly tell them)
backups are great, just like college.
haves some reaches, some ballpark, and some safeties</p>
<p>That’s true. It would be crushing to spend so much time on Apps and be rejected to all these highly competitive schools come March.</p>
<p>Definitely have a back up! It’s your safety net in a highly competitive pool of applicants. Schools can only take so many students. If you find yourself in the group they’re unable to take, you’re much better to have the possibility of a second or third choice.</p>
<p>Why only Andover n Exeter not Milton? Milton has a strong program in writing.</p>
<p>@naturallyme, are you a sophomore too? what did you get on your ssat?</p>
<p>Hei, sweetie!
I’m a firstie at UWC-USA, and I’m telling you: APPLY TO UWC! It’s an amazing experience, and I’m saying that after only having been there for a semester! I’m so happy that I’m here, getting friends from all over the world, learning stuff about myself and others, doing school work with people from Europe, Asia and Latin America at the same time… The list will never stop, I believe. So apply! Maybe you get in, and it’ll change your life if you do!
Hugs from Montezuma =)</p>
<p>Haha! I wish I would have actually checked back on this forum, before …
Well, I wasn’t accepted to Exeter, although I don’t think having a back-up school would have helped. I only wish I could have known why!
Also, someone asked what my SSAT score was – but since I live in NM, we don’t have it. I took the PSAT, scored in the 89% (88% read comp, 89% math, 99% writing skills). Over all score was a 182.
Someone else asked why only Exeter and Andover, my answer is that I had never heard of Milton, and I only looked into the 10 schools.</p>
<p>Any advice for next year? I think I’ll apply again, most likely, but with more schools this time … Any advice?</p>
