I want to go to Boston College, Georgetown, Duke, University of Richmond (not so much), Emory, UVA, or UNC.
I’m in the top 20% of my grade (about 400 people) with a 3.6 gpa. I have to take my second SAT (my goal is a 2000-2100) but on my first one a got a 1710. For extracurriculars I played varsity soccer 4 years and lacrosse 3 years, I also did varsity winter track two years. I am a tutor, and a peer mentor, in the national honor society and national social studies honor society. I take/ took or going challenging classes like ap world, ap bio, ap english, ap calc ab and a bunch of SUNY (state university of new york) college level classes. But my scores on the ap’s are 2’s or 3’s. I’m also in my schools science research program, where we contact actual scientists and do lab work for three years. For science research I’ve won 3rd and 4th place in two different competitions. I also get along very will with my teachers.

I’m afraid most of those colleges are out of reach for you. Your GPA is respectable, but unexceptional, especially since you performed so poorly on the ACTs (that suggests that your AP classes were not as rigorous as they might have been). Obviously, a 300-point increase would be very helpful, but it is also statistically unlikely. Only about 25% of students who retake the SAT improve their scores by more than 50 points. It happens, and you’ll read posts on CC by students who accomplished that, but the odds (as provided by The College Board, which has a vested interest in encouraging students to sit for the tests repeatedly) are against that sort or increase. You need to build a list of colleges based on who and what you are now, and your scores are not competitive for the schools you listed above. Even Richmond is probably a reach for you. Is that 3.6 weighted or unweighted? If you are a NY resident, then the SUNY campuses are obvious choices for you. Will you require financial aid? If you like BC, what about Stonehill? If you are interested in southern colleges, look at Guilford, Appalachian State, or UNC in Greensboro or Asheville. You should build your list “from the bottom up,” beginning with colleges where you will almost certainly be accepted, instead of beginning with colleges where you will almost certainly be rejected.

You won’t get into any of the colleges you listed.

^no. If you continue to have stellar extracurriculars and actually reach at least a 2000 on your SAT, you’ll be competitive for at least boston college

It’s certainly possible. You never really know unless you try. I’ve known people with just decent GPA’s getting into top schools like Vanderbilt and USC and people with incredible GPA’s, scores and resumes getting rejected from state schools. I would recommend to try the ACT and see how you do on that. If you find you do better, there’s no need to send your SAT score. Keep working! It’s always possible. Just make sure to keep up your grades and continue to expand your extracurriculars. Taking lots of AP classes looks great.

With your current SAT, I would say at least Georgetown and Duke are a bit of a reach. I really wish you well on your second SAT, and I would also suggest taking the ACT. For me the ACT went much better than the SAT. Good luck!
