A lot of kids that get into the top 10, and often above top 5, percent aren’t always on par with other kids with the same class rank - they may have less challenging curriculum, go to a disadvantage or smaller school, etc., and it is likely that a lot of them account for the lower test scores. But really, standardized tests like the SAT and ACT (and even the ridiculous TAKS) can’t be compared to the tests administered by specific instructors, etc. that are often tailored to the style of the students. So while yes, their school grades are in large part based on tests, it’s not exactly a one-to-one comparison, and it still doesn’t mean they take those tests well.

From personal experience, I bombed my SAT way back when, despite having a high GPA and earning all 5s on my AP courses, etc. - it just wasn’t a format I was used to and I think the pressure to have that one composite number reflect my intelligence and potential got the best of me.

not Standardized tests that are composed of three completely different subjects that are pretty much a sum of your entire high school career and could possibly determine your collegiate future. No pressure tho, lol. Point is, it’s definitely not “just another test.”

I was accepted to McCombs within 4 days of submitting my application
my stats are:
in-state
2170 SAT
32 ACT
uw gpa: 3.92
rank: 11/617
and my school ranks so that there is only one valedictorian lol

hopefully this helps you get an overall view of the types of students that get accepted to the business school!
I’m currently trying to finish my business honors app right now ><

I have 2 friends who were accepted but they are both around 1%. My GUESS is that admissions will have to wait until the Dec. 15 deadline to see how many people they have in the top 2% before they can start admitting others. I’ve heard that this year could be even more competitive because of the economy (people staying close to home and paying in-state tuition).

wow i had no idea mccombs was so hard to get in…like i said before our school gives everyone with a perfect gpa (which isnt hard if you inflate it with ap class) a number 1 rank…which basically means automatic acceptance to mccombs im guessing from this post? my act was pretty low, and i still got in?

I am surprised that only 13 got confirmed admission decisions from McCombs. I know there are many who don’t even look at College Confidential’s discussions but even then 13 is pretty small number!

it is almost Thanksgiving & still only 13 confirmed admission…guys & gals if u have seen this thread & u have confirmed admission to McCombs please post your stats here, thanks in advance

this is insane i expected mroe people to get in!
but about 5 of my friends got in they have the same stats as me for gpa>>1/720 because again anyone with a 4.5 gets a number one ranking. my friend who is in top 105 but doesnt have the 1 ranking hasnt gotten her acceptance yet.

I just got accepted today to the business school. I sent my application in Nov. 19 so it took about 2 weeks.

My SAT score isn’t good (1810) but I made all A’s last year with 4 AP classes and my essays were good, so I think maybe that’s why.
I’m # 13/867.
4.6 GPA on 4 scale. At my school we’re on a different scale but I’m not sure if it’s based out of a 6 or 7 scale (mine is a 6.72 GPA)

Good luck to everyone else who applied!! I hope you all get in. :]
