In at Berkeley, UCLA, and Harvey Mudd.
HYPSP look like reaches due to your lack of “leadership”, but you have the numbers for them, so apply, write kickass essays and maybe you’ll get in.

Harvard - very high reach
Princeton - very high reach
Yale - high reach
Stanford - high reach
Harvey Mudd - In
U Penn - reach
UCLA - In
Berkeley - low reach

Frankly speaking your ECs are so-so, SAT I and II rather impressive. Just one question though, why did you join the Odyssey of the Mind so many times? haha. mm right now your best chances lies in ucla and harvey mudd, but i wouldn’t be surprise if you manage to make it to berkeley or upenn. gd luck!

It’s actually more like…

Harvard - huge reach
Princeton - huge reach
Yale - huge reach
Stanford - huge reach
Harvey Mudd - reach
U Penn - reach
UCLA - match (out of state)
Berkeley - low reach (out of state)

HMC is ranked as the most selective LAC by USNWR…

Since he is in CSF I would guess he is instate for both UCLA and UCB. If so, I’d say he has a high probability of getting into both. As for the others, I would say he has the ECs and the SATs to at least qualify for all of them; he seems to have about the average total SAT score for the top schools, and a decent amount of ECs (no hooks really though), as well as a rigorous course load. I would say then:

Harvard - reach
Princeton - reach
Yale - reach
Stanford - reach
Harvey Mudd - reach
U Penn - reach
UCLA - match
Berkeley - match

but this is assuming you right solid essays and have great letters of recommendation. Anyways, get some safeties - its just an extra click on the UC application page.

What would count as good leadership? I assumed that becoming an eagle scout would, and so would coaching a wrestling team and Odyssey of the Mind team.

And in terms of stopping a lot of EC’s after 10th grade, it’s because I had issues with having to help with a sick family member.

Bump. Oh, and for those of you that don’t know what Odyssey of the Mind entails. It is 3/4ths of the year, and the hours per week range from 4 to 50+ (not an exaggeration)

actually, i’d say hmc is more of a match/reach.

Yes the hours for Odyssey of the Mind isn’t an exaggeration. I’ve been doing OotM for 9 years. And It is my one main EC that sometimes takes over my life. My team and I average 15 hours a week (sometimes more closer to the competitions).

And also for most of the school year as well, especially if your team advances to World Finals.
