Dear Parants:

Hello, I’m a junior from Taiwan. I’m applying for Stanford EA this November, and I want to get a head start on my essays. I’ve finished the main essay under the prompt “A picture is worh a thousand words, as the adage goes. Include a photograph or picture that represents something important to you, and explain its significance.” The photograph I chose is a night veiw of a park in Chungli City, a small city in which I live. Because I go to a regular Chinese School in Taiwan, I have few teachers to read and comment on my essays, and feel a little unsure about how well I can convey my meaning in English. Also, I would like to know whether or not it can effectively tell someone I never met about who I am and what my passions are. I would appreciate it if you could read my essay and give me some suggestions. The first paragraph is attatched below, and if you are interested to read more, please leave a message and I will PM or email my essay to you. Thank you very much!

“Each day at 6:14 pm I step out of Chungli Train Station and into Chungli city. Darkness and light interrupt each other here in the center of the city, neon/traffic/car lights conversing brokenly with the darkness of closing dusk. I am used to such chaos, becoming part of it during the ride home from Taipei every day after school. On the other side of the road is a tiny circular park. From the concrete benches and shady trees that line it, I gather that the park was originally designed to offer rest and comfort to train passengers. It is a design that has never fully transported itself from vision to reality. The benches are soiled from abuse and the trees are choked with pollution.”
