<pre><code>“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” is a phrase from Sanskrit, the ancient language and it means the world is one family. As an Indian American, I have grown up learning these teachings. By connecting with my roots I developed fundamental values such as honesty, fairness, selflessness, and equality.
This degree of connection to my homeland would definitely not be possible without the exponential growth in technology in recent times. Varying from vehicles such as jets to communication systems such as video chat, these advances in possibility enable us to inform and be informed very quickly and efficiently. The impact that modern technology has made on the world has influenced who I want to become.
Since I was a young boy, I have enjoyed working with math and technology because of the intricacies involved and the many unique ways to approach every situation. I would take a problem such as 27 times 3 and simplify it to the well-known 9 times 9 instead of taking the common approach and work through the original question digit by digit. Thinking beyond the norm and seeking new options like this is something I find interesting.
The impact of technology and my interest in certain aspects of the subject have led me to pursue Computer Science. By joining this field, I will be able to do what I enjoy while also staying true to my roots. One of my major goals is to further advance technology so our world will continue to become more connected. As a result, “Vasudhaiva Kutambakam” will become more real than it has ever been.
