Hi everyone! I applied to Brown, and am worried that my stats are just too low to even have a glimmer of hope of getting in  Do you think that my extracurriculars make up for my weaker test scores?tell me what you think. I am also worried about Bowdoin and Vassar, so tell me what you think about those too please. Thanks!!

Ive volunteered for a while at a local natural history museum affiliated with Yale, and have taken a college class (Psych) at Yale as well. I’ve taken several language classes through a yale program, including two years of arabic. I am fluent in german. Ive loved the arts my entire life, especially photography. I am currently taking a sociology class at another university (southern CT state university).

If you want any more stats, let me know…
also, would it be obnoxious/bad if I sent them a CD with some of my artwork and a recommendation now just to show how interested i am? Ive already applied…so I dont know if it would be too late

do you have a class rank? where are you from? what type of school do you go to?

You’re very well rounded, but I don’t necessarily see a hook. Your grades are good but SATs could be a little higher. It all comes down to what you did with your essays. You mention knowing German and Arabic. For example, if you wrote something about world cultures involving your experience, Brown in particular might really like that. Bowdoin also likes that kind of thing, but I don’t know as much about Bowdoin. The typical applicant’s chances are 9%. I’d put your chances at 25% for Brown.

Thanks floatingriver! no unfortunatly i did not write my essay about that.
joem4d: I am in the top 5% of my class. I go to a public HS in the northeast. I chose the essay asking what do i not know. I though i answered it in a unique and clever way, so I hope that helps. When i toured there, I also sat in on a German class, which my interviewer seemed to really like. hopefully that helps as well!

ok, the northeast is more competitive than almost any other regoin, cal also, but i could make a case for you. i dont see why not. but i think you have as good of a shotas anyone else.
