Prompt: when some people win, must other lose, or are there situations in which everyone wins?

“Life is like a buffet, where there is enough food for everyone.” This quote is from the book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens. I strongly agree with Sean Convey, the author of the book. The quote depicts that in life there is space for everyone to win just like a buffet. Several examples from people’s anecdotes and current events demonstrate that nobody needs to lose.

The book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Convey explains in Habit 4: win-win that everyone can win. There is enough success for everybody. In this book, Dawn Meeves share her experiences of the habit win-win. She and her best friend were in the basketball team. Dawn was very good at hitting the shot, and this made her to be the central attention. Her best friend was jealous, and stopped to pass her the ball during the games. However, Dawn thought about the habit win-win and instead of doing the same to her friend, she started passing the ball to her friend. Usually she would just hit the basket, but then Dawn passed the ball to her friend. Her friend was surprised, but then in other games, she started to return the ball to Dawn again. Afterwards, both of them converted into the legendary duo player and at the same time fostered their friendship. This was a situation of win-win. In many teams of basketball or any other sports, only one articulate star gets the attention. However, Dawn’s experience showed us that everyone can win in the same time. There was no need for her friend or Dawn to lose.

The next occurrence where everyone wins is a current event. Companies of technology such as HTC, Samsung and Apple are always demanding each other for infringed on each other’s copyright, but now Apple and Samsung are planning to have a peace treaty. If they achieved that, both companies will be winning. They will both gain money instead of spending money to go to the Court. This incident also shows that if people cooperate, they can acquire the best results.

To reiterate, a plethora of situations shows that everyone can be winning and nobody needs to lose. The problem is that, in order to achieve that, we need to cooperate with others and become unselfish, just as Dawn and her friend. Nowadays, people like to be the only hero, so when they win they want others to lose, but it shouldn’t be in that way. Isn’t better when everyone wins? Surely, it is.
