Prompt: Should people take more responsibility for solving problems that affect their communities or the nation in general?
Essay:
As said in the given text, "expecting that the government...should always come up with the solution" is not only impossible but also shows the lack of responsibility from the subjects, or the People. The citizens' responsibility for solving problems is crucial to build and make better a community, as shown through the lives of two extremely important figures in the history.
Martin Luther, a devout German Christian demonstrated such taking of responsibilities. Luther, along with the majority of the population at the time, was extremely discontent with the Church. They were corrupt in every possible aspects, and their debauchery went from the unreasonable sales of indulgences to the execution of innocent women accused of witchcraft. Tired of this downfall of the Church, Luther instigated the Protestant Movement. Even more remarkably, the Church, in response to the movement, started their own--the counter-reformation. The Church brushed down its corruption and became much more affable to its subjects. Hence, its can be clearly seen that Martin Luther, without any input from the government, solved the problem of his community.
Moving forward the clock to about a millennium later, another Martin Luther demonstrated this sublime concept. Martin Luther King Jr., as everyone should know, started the anti-racial movement to solve a problem he had in his country--segregation. Dr. King's movement lasted years until the government finally banned segregation from the famous class action lawsuit, Brown v. Board of Education. This movement was obviously a huge success, given that the United States is now a country where all men and women, no matter what race, is equal under the law. However, this movement was not made possible from the help of the government; in fact, Dr. King had to fight against the government. Again, this example clearly shows that people can, and should, take more responsibility for solving the community's problems.]
Therefore, after a careful analysis of the lives of Martin Luther and MLK Jr., taking an active role in solving problems of the community is indeed crucial. Without their strong sense of responsibility, the world would not have been the same place.
