I think DH and I are in a midlife crisis. Have just relocated to NJ and are strongly drawn to a house with a huge indoor pool, complete with diving board, guest dressing room, sound system, lights, blah blah. Have never owned a pool before. But husband loves to swim and so do the rest of us. I just know this is dumb . . . it’s a short sale, priced below market by a lot, two offers already and it’s in our budget.

nope, not stopping you… i had the same crisis…

offer in right now on a foreclosed beach property 3000 miles away!!! thank goodness family there to watch over it…going to use it as an investment vacation rental.

I won’t talk you out of it, but don’t fall completely in love, as the timeline to buy a short sale is open ended. An indoor pool is a good idea in NJ - you can only use an outdoor pool from early May to late September. Enjoy - I’m jealous!

Jealous too. Would love same if I could ever really learn to do a good job blow-drying my hair. Still a professional woman and my hair can look bad. Struggling every day with it would be a challenge. Otherwise, would love to swim every day.

Have a good locking system so you don’t have to worry about visiting toddlers and have rules about people swimming alone.

I have an in-ground outdoor pool and needed to take steps to ensure mental well-being. We ended up taking away the diving board and making the poor three and a half feet so we could all stand in it, but admittedly that is a radical solution.

Good luck. Have fun. Why would you want us to stop you again? LOL.

Red Hook Blonde sounds very enticing! I cannot find my fav brew here - Two Hearted Ale. The smoke salmon I have lots of, Bunsen. Big Brother is a lobbyist for Alaskan Fisherman. He keeps me in good supply - bless him!

And the biggest draw is to finally, FINALLY have a real party pad! (There’s also a wine cellar)

My parents used to live in downtown Chicago on Lakeshore Dr. Their apartment building had an indoor pool on the top level. I’ve never felt so incredibly spoiled as when I would swim laps in that pool while the snow fell on the lake! It was dreamy.

I would make sure that the home is very carefully looked for mold and structural issues. Plus, it will no doubt take longer to sell if you should want to move some day but aside from that? I’m not seeing the downside.

Lastly, how often does a married couples mid-life crisis involve the same object of desire and is affordable? Not very often! So, I say, go for it and enjoy!

PS We nearly bought a place with a pool and I was very impressed with this company. It would be a good investment for general safety and for when the designated life guards want to joing the party!
I miss NJ so much…
All the wonderful shopping malls (Short Hill!), great supermarkets (Wagman!), excellent schools, nice people…
If you and your H really like the house, why not?
But, how much time you will need to clean and maintain the house?

Sewhappy–so glad you are liking New Jersey. I am a Jersey girl through and through and hate how it gets dissed. I don’t intend to ever live anywhere else.

However, I have to make a Jersey-centric comment–the house might be in your range, but don’t forget property taxes. They may be sky high for a house of that caliber in the area you are looking at (the only place they seem within reason is way down is S. Jersey).

How close is the pool to the living quarters? We looked at a house with an indoor pool, and all the rooms, kitchen included, reeked of chlorine. (And as a poster above mentioned, take a good look, and sniff, for mildew.)
