Please tell me how to improve my chances!

<p>Rice is my dream school. I visited in the spring and fell more in love. I plan on majoring in Pysch and going pre-med.</p>

<p>Class of '14.
FL
Black Female (1/2 Jamaican)
Rank: 2 or 3/40
GPA: 3.9UW cum. so far, 4.1 weighted
SAT: just took on the 6th, I got a 196 on the PSAT and feel I did better than that, so I’ll say 1350/2000?
ACT: only took once, 29 (I got so distracted during the math section, didn’t finish half of it and got a 22, that’s what killed me) retaking in Sept. obviously. I got a 10 on writing.
School: Very very small private. No APs offered, took all Honors classes available
Classes by Graduation:
5 years of math
5 years of science (1 online) all Honors
2.5 years of Spanish Honors (had to take one online as my school doesn’t have Spanish 3)
.5 years of French
4 years of English all Honors
5 years of Social Studies
4 years of Drama</p>

<p>Recs: The teacher sings my praises</p>

<p>Essay: I have a clever topic, I’m a pretty good writer, but it isn’t written yet</p>

Heavily involved in music and drama competitions with my church
I work every summer in a Doctor’s office</p>

<p>Volunteer work:
Foreign Missions trips (200+ hours)
Hospital (200+)
Playing music for church (200+)
As president of NHS, I plan on organizing a monthly outreach to Senior citizens living alone in our community, doing simple things like cleaning, laundry and yard work</p>

<p>I know my ACT sucks. Will not having any AP classes hurt me? I’m taking the hardest classes available at school. I think that being heavily involved with leadership and my URM status is my “hook”. Thank you for your advice!!!</p>

<p>If your school does not offer AP classes, not having any will not hurt you. I think you have a good shot, but all chances threads are sort of pointless. We are not on the admissions committee and they will be evaluating you against whoever else applies that year. Good luck and definitely apply! :)</p>

<p>Why take the ACT’s ? Just take the SATs. You did well on them. Otherwise, I think you have a good chance- in my humble opinion.</p>

<p>well i dk if i wanna take the 2 SAT Subject test. I’m going to submit both ACT and SAT though</p>

<p>i mean, u need to take the SAT II if you want your SAT scores to count. Otherwise focus on the ACT</p>
