I keep seeing advertisements to join this rewards program at the different stores that I shop at.
Has anyone registered for it? What is the reward for joining this program?
My impression is that its more of an idea than an actuality. The idea is you accumulate points and can use them at actual stores but there’s nothing that requires stores to offer them same as cash, etc. I have trouble differentiating this from going to a store from x card’s shopping portal and its promise of y% discount for using the link (and thus their card).
Two stores where I have credit or loyalty cards have offered this–Macy’s and Rite Aid. You can earn points at one and use them at another. I am a bit annoyed about the change, especially for Rite Aid where I paid attention to their “UP” points. Now I fully expect that all participating retailers will have information from each other, and it’s one more thing to keep track of. I’m not signing up now, waiting to see what happens.
I got the hard sell for this at Macy’s last week and signed up, but after reading the piece linked below, I think it’s a waste of wallet space.

I have seen advertisements for this too. Good article @mommaj. I shop at Macys’ and Riteaid.
It seems it can be used at some gas stations too. I wish there was one universal card to carry instead of one for each store. Still thinking about it.
