Hey guys.
I put the same question up and up again, but people dont seem to answer in detail…
so please help me guys.
I score around 550s on the SAT CR section. Help me now. I hate CR.
How can i get around 700s for the october SAT test?
HELP PLEASSSEEEE PLEASEEE. TIPS TIPS TIPS.
And i m using barrons right now. Is it gud? Am i using a right book?

I have the same problem… I don’t know, CR is the easiest section for everyone around me. They all score 750+ and when I ask how they did it they say “I don’t know”. I don’t suspect that they are lying because it seems like they really don’t know. People who doesn’t even know the format of the SAT can score 750 on CR the first time they take it. This really ****es me off… My last chance is next october and I don’t even know how am I gonna do it…

they don’t know because you don’t really study for CR. people who do good in critical reading usually read many many books when they were young. so reading a short passage is a breeze.

@PennDreamer
are you good at reading? cuz normally the people i see who get low CR don’t read much, they can’t even plow through a 300 page book within a week. If you read usually and still got a 550, i don’t know, i think you should try to memorize vocabulary from a good vocab book and finish the blue book CR practice sections.

RR has many excellent techniques and strategies to attack CR questions. If you’re really diligent and use what Adam Robinson says, you should see an improvement in your CR score.

True: Critical Reading assesses a skill that is usually acquired over a long period of time starting at a young age. Those that did read often can naturally score an 800 or 750+ and don’t know how they did it, just that it came to them.

False: Unless you are of these people you cannot get the score you want.

Here’s what you should realize. Yes, those with innate skills can ace the test but also, those who practice diligently and find their groove can too.

You have to tell us more about you. Were you an ‘avid reader’ (god I hate that term), how EXACTLY do you read/answer the questions and how do you feel about the passages. You give us info, we will give you feedback.

I raised my CR reading score from a 590 to a 730. Here’s what I remember helped me. All the questions aside from “what is the theme/main idea/overall tone” questions come in the order they appear from the passage. (question 3 is found later than question 2). EVERY question about a detail can be found int he passage, remember to read the italicized print before a passage—if it’s there it’s probably an answer.

aside from that study vocab, there’s no other way to get those questions right besides knowing the words. That’s all the advice I have to give and I hope I explained it in an understandable way. Best of luck to you PennDreamer.

Really, it seems statistically impossible joelmac, but I believe you. What was your raw score?

PennDreamer - this is like the 3rd thread you have posted all with the same question. You received some very good advice from Dark Knight (post 4) and Sak09 (post 7). I suggest you stop posting and start working!

haha… alrite. Yeah. I better start working on CR. SORRY GUYS. And thanks for the answers. It was way better this time!. :)
