is it important to question the people in authority?
Sometimes, it is crucial to question the authority.Everyone at some point makes mistakes or is guided towards a wrong path, and questioning the people in authority can prevent wrong decisions from happening.Examples from literature and history show how important it is to question authority.
One example in which questioning the authority proved to be important is that of the Greek king Gustav Ergo.In the year 963,Gustav took control of the island of Prometheus after defeating the locals. After the battle,Gustav decided to free the women as an act of mercy. But some of his battle advisors thought it was a wrong decision. They questioned Gustav about the decision and made him realise that these women could go and warn the poeple of neighboring islands about Gustav’s plan to conquer the island.Gustav realised it would be a bad decision and took the women as prisoners.Had the women be freed,Gustav’s could have been ambushed by the neighboring islands. The advisors stopped this from happening.
Another example is from the T.V. show ‘Arrow’.In Arrow, captain lance makes a deadly plan to capture the masked vigilante. He ordered his police officers to shoot and kill the vigilante so he doesn’t interfere with the law again.Reluctant to follow the order, some of the police officers question captain Lance and tell him how the vigilante has been successful in stopping the crimes that the police had failed to ,and what if they need him in the future.Realising how many lives the vigilante has saved, captain Lance changes his mind and cancels the plan to kill the vigilante. If captain Lance wasn’t questioned about his decision, the police would lost a great ally.
Examples like that of Arrow and Greek king Gustav demonstrate how questioning the authority can turn out to be beneficial. And how some wrong decisions can be stopped from happening.Questioning the people in authority is indeed important.
