PLUS loan

Does it matter which parent fills out the PLUS loan application?

We are wondering that, too! Waiting for the answer!

In the case of divorced or separated biological parents, either biological parent may complete the PLUS Loan application. It doesn’t matter which parent is custodial.

In the case of stepparents, a stepparent who is married to a biological parent may complete the PLUS Loan application, but a stepparent who is no longer married to the biological parent may not. Of course, like anyone else, a stepparent in this situation can act as a co-signer on a private loan for the student.

Does that help?

My parents are not divorced. My mother usually fills out all the financial paperwork in the house, but my dad has the higher income. It says it’s not income dependent, but will my mother get turned down, even though her credit report is fine?

Thanks.
