Podcast: Interviews with people in prestigious jobs (Amazon, Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, etc.)

TLDR: Starting a podcast and looking for suggestions about interview questions to ask people in prestigious or interesting jobs (e.g. Amazon, Goldman, McKinesey, Entrepreneurship, etc.)

Hey everybody,

I graduated from an undergraduate business program ~1 year ago, and I’m currently working as a consultant at one of the MBB firms. Because of my background, I have a lot of good friends that work at ‘top’ firms in different industries (Goldman Sachs, Facebook, Amazon, McKinsey etc.) I also have friends that work in vastly different roles in these industries (from management consultants, to software engineers). I also know many entrepreneurs, and others that are successful in more artistic fields.

I’ve recently been getting numerous requests for coffee chats from students, and I’ve realized that most students who want to work at these firms have no idea what a day on the job looks like, and what skills someone would acquire working for one of these companies.

I remember struggling with this myself when I was in school. Most jobs have a certain narrative around them, but as a student you don’t necessarily get to understand what a day on the job looks like. And most people you end up talking to tend to respond with well-worn platitudes.

To clear up some of the mystique around these ‘prestigious’ jobs, I’m going to start a podcast and interview people at some of these firms. My goal isn’t to interview the partners or senior managers at these firms – I want to interview the people out of university who have been working at these places for a few years.

That being said, I’m curious as to whether there is anything in particular that people would be interested in understanding about some of these professions.

E.g. When I was in university, I was curious whether working in management consulting would help me if I decided to become an entrepreneur. I now know the answer to that question, but I couldn’t get a well-thought out answer from anyone when I was recruiting for firms.

I want to make sure this podcast is useful to people, so post any types of people that you would like me to interview (e.g. analyst at Goldman Sachs), and let me know what kind of questions you’d like me to ask them.
