Poem essay

One of my essay topics involves discussing a piece of art, music, literature that inspires me. I’m considering writing a poem for the topic that mimics the style of a poem (the work of e.e. cummings) that I like. Is this a bad/cliche idea?

This could be good imo. If you feel that you can produce a high quality piece of work, then give it a shot and see how you do! :)

Don’t worry about whether your plan is “cliche”. If your poem gives a unique take that reflects and reveals your unique personality, then the result can help you in the admissions process–regardless of how many other people many have tried the same basic idea.
