We need to send poinsettia plants to friends at several out of town locations, where we know nothing about the florists…any idea how to go about this? Previously we have known someone in the town who could advise about local shops, but not this time. Thanks.

I would just order them online. I’d actually feel more confident about ordering poinsettias than any other flower since they’re wildly popular at this time of year so they’re likely to have a good stock of them. I had good luck in the past ordering flowers from Martha Stewart, but when you look at her website now and click on flowers it sends you to the site below. I also ordered flowers from Hallmark.com that were consitently wonderful, but I’m not sure they still do that.

[Poinsettias from 1-800-FLOWERS.COM](http://ww4.1800flowers.com/collection.do?dataset=10569)

I’ve used 1-800-flowers before with good results and also the FTD online site. However, they are very expensive. Are you sure you want to do this? The mini poinsettias by Martha Stewart are 59 dollars per order! And you said you have several people to order for!

I never use 1800 flowers anymore. Complete rip off- useless middle men padding the bill. With the internet, you can always find a mom & pop operation in the town/city you are sending to in a few minutes. You’ll get better service, a much cheaper price, and support a small business. Just be sure to ask the ‘mom and pop’ a few questions to test out if they are really local…I found a few flower big businesses play the internet, pretending to be local when they are not).

If you are forced to use a new florist, I’d reconsider the poinsettias in areas with freezing temperatures. Poinsettias can’t stand the chill; if a delivery person leaves the flowers outdoors, there goes your expensive gift.

I thought the 1-800-FLOWERS prices were exorbitant. Yes, we want to do it, but not at those prices. We have a florist in H’s hometown who takes care of things for us in Indiana, need someone in western Missouri and around Fort Myers, Florida. If anyone is in those areas and have a local shop to recommend, that would be great.
