@deb922 Happily, the interview is being rescheduled. I am so relieved!
-7 also in Chicago. Keep your heat at a constant level and a few degrees higher then you normally would. Don’t have it go down overnight etc or it might not recover. They are saying that a lot of heating systems will be stressed tomorrow so the inside Temps might drop much lower then expected. If it starts dropping take out your filter for a day or so. Less stress the better.
OK, US is in deep freeze. I wonder how Canada is doing?!!
Thy might be doing quite well. I think midwest is colder than Alaska at the moment.
Wow!! Below freezing sounds brutal! Stay safe and warm, everyone! Watch for ice—especially black ice.
We bought puppy pads for the doggo. So far she’s been OK with going out but better safe than sorry.
I also caved and bought her a bag of squeaky balls for when she gets wound up. She’s normally OK with the cold but not this cold.
Paper being delivered woke up my dog. Hope their dressing warm… - 18 without windchill… Later this morning going to have a plan to get the dog to go outside but fast.
They say if your cold then your dog is cold but I will have ear warmers plus a hat plus a scarf plus my Eddie Baur jacket with hood with a sweatshirt on… He won’t…
Early dismissal from school Tuesday, and no school today. Tomorrow is when wind chills are supposed to be in the minus teens here…stay tuned.
I’m going out today and buying a chicken to make…soup!
Made it work. Surprised that some people decided to take a vacation day. To me not worth it to take a vacation day to be stuck inside! Brought hot chocolate supplies for those who are here.
Tried to take the dog out this morning for business - we ALWAYS walk in the morning and I think he didn’t get why we were hanging out in the yard. Our walks and roads are solid ice - seriously you could skate on them - so walking is not a choice right now. He was confused and didn’t do much business but I took him in after 5 minutes because he was already starting to limp when he was walking. Scary. He was wearing his quilted down doggie coat.
Currently minus-35 degrees F here in north central Minnesota, with windchill of minus-53. USPS mail delivery is canceled today for the entire state of Minnesota. Our Star Tribune (Mpls) newspaper never arrived this morning but, ah yes, our car started right up. Feeling sorry for the rabbit I startled when I opened one of our window shades.
I just saw a clip from Conan’s show. “A polar vortex came in from Canada…anyone here from Canada? (woo!). Thanks a LOT. We’re building our wall on the wrong border!”
And from Colbert…”The viral marketing for ‘Game of Thrones’ has gone too far. We get it! Winter is coming.”
Stay warm, everyone!
So glad I have an aussie Shepard (mix with collie). They are very smart. (uh-oh… This is cc already starting whose dog is smarter…lol)…sincerI am home today I waited much later to take a walk. He came to get me which he never does. Once we hit the outside ground he stated shivering. I ran towards a tree, he pee’d like a lot then we ran inside. Like 2 minutes top. I had a dog coat on him that we got from Aldi. He looked at me like “what the hell”. Then I fed him and about 40 minutes later we went back out. I told him to make in a hurry qucik. He actually knows these commands from training and used to be able to make on command… Sorta… Well anyway it worked. We ran a bit and he made me chase him a bit… Then back to the house. 5 minutes tops… This will be the whole day like this.
Started both cars for a bit also. I have to board him tomorrow then off to North Carolina to speak at a conference on Friday if Ohare is back on track. That’s another issue all together… Ha…
I am not even thinking about taking a shower today. Don’t want the pipes to expand and contract then break. Tomorrow morning will be back to a normal 2 above… Geez…
Minus 21.5 in central Iowa.
No mail delivery in the entire state today.
-22 west of Chicago this morning. By Monday, up 70 degrees to a balmy 48! We jump 20 degrees each day - Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Thank goodness the worst of this will pass quickly.
I sent an email to my brother in Columbus OH (-2), my sister in Chicago (-20) and my brother in Madison WI (-25) urging them to stay warm! (Chilly but not in the vortex here near Charlotte)
20 and sunny at my daughter’s home in northwest Alaska right now.
Our mail is canceled for today and lots of local businesses aren’t opening.
The funny thing is that it isn’t the coldest day we’ve had THIS YEAR!!
-8 this morning. MLK day it got to -16 but it was clear, today it’s cloudy and snowing. Keeps it warmer lol!
The boys are spending the day throwing boiling water outside and watching it insta-freeze. I did this during the last polar vortex and have no real desire to do it again lol.
They didn’t cancel trash pick-up so the neighborhood group is asking people who can to not put out trash. No reason to have these men and women out in frostbite weather.
@romanigypsyeyes have your boys blow bubbles…it’s amazing how fast bubbles freeze…but still float before breaking
I guess it’s too late now but one solution to having a place for the dog to relieve himself when he can’t go outside is to get a small plastic kiddie pool and line the inside with squares of sod. Put it in the garage or on a porch and just let him go there until you can dispose of it once the weather improves a little. Some folks do this in hurricanes down here. I guess it might be a problem finding a plastic kiddie pool and sod in January, though…
