Poligamy in the Community

Wow. My dad is obsessed with this issue right now. He says that if he ever finds Warren Jeffs, he’ll probably pay him to take me away and marry me off to a 70-year-old man. But that’s just my dad.

And here are some sound clips that I thought were pretty disturbing. It’s him talking:

http://www.npr.org/dmg/dmg.php?mediaURL=/atc/20050503_atc_racist&mediaType=WM</a></p>

http://www.npr.org/dmg/dmg.php?mediaURL=/atc/20050503_atc_wives&mediaType=WM</a></p>

*On one of them, he pauses and flips through some pages before talking again. Kind of amusing. What a pervertive prick.

my parents are swingers…and my stepdad wears his ‘hedonism II’ shirt around the house like a trophy

“or a woman chooses to marry 5 men, so be it.”

I can’t even IMAGINE having to be #5 every night. Talk about damaged goods.

HAHAHAHA…you know how sick that **** would look…'specially if the only means of contraception were to be birth control or the nuva ring

Erm, not victemless. What about all of the molested girls and boys, and how they’re forced to marry at VERY young ages to MUCH older men (I’m talking a 14 year old girl and 50 year old man, which is legally statutory rape), and how they aren’t allowed to know anything about the world outside of that town, and how the girls aren’t allowed an education??? I would NOT call that a victemless crime.

Polygamy in general I have no problem with as along as all parties are consenting, it’s everythign else about that perticular town/subset of culture, that I hate. Also how a lot of the cops are in it too, I find horrible. The girls don’t know that there is any other way to live, and are forced into it, and aren’t allowed an education.

^I think he was talking about Poligamy in general, not that weird town that was on the Oprah show.

Big Love is an excellent show. Great acting, great characters!

I still think Big Love is a tad bit intended to make us leery of mainstream Mormons for no solid reason, but that could also be said about The Da Vinci Code. Anyway, no one replied to my sound clips! He sounds so strange…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLOaNLK8zFk&search=Warren%20Jeffs</a></p>

Yo, feast your eyes on this. And the guy sings too.

I am a Mormon and I can definitely say that polygamy is NOT allowed in our church. I find it disgusting, degrading, and simply not nice. Those who practice polygamy are excommunicated from our church, so please don’t label all Mormons as polygamists. Ugh. . .it’s gross just thinking about it! In fact, the theme most often discussed in our church is the family. One of our church’s main focuses is to protect the family (and not polygamist families).

Well said, flipchick. People can be very ignorant these days when it comes to generalizing others.

Anyway, there’s a “flip” in your screen name? Are you Filipino? I am, so I’m just wondering.

ah… irony

Poligamy is also extremely expensive. In the eyes of the government, the man is only married to his first wife, and the rest are single mothers. This allows them to collect massive amounts of welfare.

I have nothing against today’s Morman Church, but if you want to know more on the subject, you should read Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer. Very insiteful

Is that book biased? I will not read any propaganda, only informative pith.

all books are biased.

It is definitly biased against the fundameltalist mormon church, as it is mainly about a fundamentalist mormon who killed his sister-in-law and baby neice because the sister-in-law didn’t like the fundamentalism, but it also has a good history of the beginnings of the LDS church up through the Prophet-hood of Bringem Young
