PoliSci Major, Stats Minor?

<p>I have applied to UCB as a PoliSci major transfer student for the fall of 2008, but recently I’ve become interested in a possible minor in Statistics to compliment PoliSci; though, since this interest is only recent, I have not completed any of the under division prereqs for a Stats minor at UCB (Math 1A, 1B, 53, 54). Also, there is the consideration of the workload in the upper division requirements for the minor, consisting of 9 Stats courses listed below, taken alongside the upper division courses in PoliSci.</p>

<p>Provided I am accepted at UCB, will it be feasible to complete a Stats minor within 2 years in conjunction with the timely completion of the upper division PoliSci courses? And secondly, is it even possible to take under division courses as a transfer student?</p>

<p>Statistics is an extremely mathematics-intense major. If you haven’t even taken Math 1A, 1B, 53, 54 yet, I don’t see how you can even consider a statistics major. It is completely unrealistic.</p>

<p>It is possible, but highly unlikely. It takes the majority of the students 2 years to finish the lower division classes (1A, 1B, 53, 54). And this is only the lower division courses. Of course, you can take summer courses, but even then, it’s not very likely.</p>

<p>The requirements you have quoted are for the statistics major. For the minor, there are only 5 upper division requirements. The link below shows the requirements for the statistics minor.</p>

<p>Yes, you can finish Math 1A, 1B, 53, and 54 in 2 years.</p>

<p>Oops, I was wondering why there was so many courses for a minor.</p>

<p>From what I have heard, PoliSci is a much less intense major than others, which would allow for more time to focus on Stats, than would another major, namely finishing the under division prereqs within 3 semesters (including summer). </p>

<p>I guess postponing graduation a semester is always an option if time does not permit. If I do complete the under divisions by Summer of 2009, and go on to the upper division, would it be feasible to complete the upperdivs during the Fall 09, Spring 10, Summer 10, and Fall 10 semesters (graduating in the Fall of 2010)? Or is this, again, too idealistic?</p>

<p>This seems more doable, but it depends on when those stat courses are offered. Most courses are not offered every semester.</p>
