POlitical correctnes over freedom of expression

I am a student that debates Lincoln Douglas debate, which focuses on values. Currently i am supposed to debate: When in conflict political correctness ought to be valued over political correctness. I need your advice as to what i should say for both. I want my case to be globally instead of focusing in the US only. I need more help in favor of political correctness, so if any of u guys could help me, i would truly appreciate it, Thanx.

If you’re arguing that political correctness should be valued over political correctness, you have a lot of work to do.

Zing!!! :)

political correctness > political correctness

I’m sorry, i typed: political corectness ought to be valued over political correctness.
What i meant to say was: political correctness ought to be valued over freedom of expression.
Thanks

It’s not so much PC that should be valued over FOE. It’s that civil discourse should be part of FOE. That’s not a PC aspect, it’s a courtesy one.

“I can’t hear your point, while you shout it in my face. I just hear shouting.”
For a message to be heard and understood, the sender should do it in a way that registers with the listener.

Conformity should not be valued over individual rights. Your thesis is abhorrent.

^Agreed.

Haha!

Why do you expect other people to do your research for you? Couldn’t you just have googled this yourself, and then perhaps armed with at least some basic information, started a post with a more developed structure?

Anyhow, I want to raise two points:

“Political correctness” as an extreme (and perhaps this is the connotation that the coiner of the term meant to bring out) is the party line of Leninism/Stalinism/Maoism.

That, however, is a straw man, as that “political correctness” is one enforced by coercion, not chosen freely. If people bring that up, you should point this out.

I do think some sensitivity is called for in a pluralistic society. Exactly how much is up for question, as the Danish cartoon debate recently showed.
