Mostly for students who got into MIT, but anyone can answer.

1) Overall
2) In math/science classes

Freshman year: 2, 0 (out of 6) [1 term math]
Sophomore: 1,1 (out of 7)
Junior: 1,1 (out of 7) [1 term AP bio]
Senior: 2,4 (out of 6) [forgot]

EA

None. Deferred EA, but still hoping…
I bet a few B’s is really nbd. :P

Only in PE, lol : P

^^^ I was “worried” about art class back in the day similarly…

I got a B one semester of Chemistry freshman year, because our professor had us make several sets of flash cards over the course of the semester and had them worth about 100 pts out of about 1300-1400 points and I did the wrong ones for all of them. He gave us the tables and each chapter had two things with the same name (one was like Table - 14a and the other was ______ 14a).

That was really frustrating, but I haven’t gotten a B since.

0, deferred EA

In a school with 7 Forms, now in Form 6:
Form 1: 1, 0
Form 2: 0, 0
Form 3: 0, 0
Form 4: 0, 0
Form 5: 0, 0
O-Level: 2, 0
Form 6: 1, 0

Wow, you guys are awesome!
I wonder, in your educational systems, are there only 1-2 exams for each subject (mid-term & final exams)?

Two exams, except in Form 5 and Form 7.

P.S.: The two O-Level subjects I got a B in was both language subjects :S

Wow, so you’re superman ![]()
Mine is different: there are many exams for each subject; so when one is done badly, you still have another opportunity to raise the average grade. Throughout 3 years, most of my exams are As (actually equivalent to A, since we use the 10.0 scale), some are Bs, there are even a few Cs and Ds :D

It’s good that they use a harsh scale. I’d wish my school use a harsher scale. This semester my 100.0 in Pure Math is treated the same as a 70.0 - it’s just an A.

Haha it’s not about the scale. It’s about who makes the test
My teachers demand a lot from the students, and any test is required to accompany with a fixed marking scheme, so it is the test which is harsh.

P.S: However what we are taught are even harsher :D

Middle School: Algebra 1 B/B, Geometry B/A, IPS A/B, French 1 B/B
High School: French 2 B/A, Orchestra 2B’s

and accepted

wow, I don’t even remember anymore. I only got straight As my first term senior year, though. I also got a C in AP US History.

for what it’s worth, my two best friends at college were #1 and #2 in their years, though.

^I know, me either. I recall having gotten a B+ in geometry freshman year. I feel like there were other B+s in there somewhere, but I don’t remember the classes.

My only B-no-plus in high school was in second semester senior year AP English, due to an epidemic of senioritis. :)

I have a ton. Almost all of my math grades were B’s. I was accepted EA. Oh, and to explain things, at my school AA means Honors, basically, and when I do “grade/grade,” that’s first/second semester.

Eighth grade: B/B in Geometry AA (this is on my transcript. I don’t know if MIT cared or not. This was the only class from 8th grade on my transcript, because it’s usually a 9th grade class)

Ninth: B first semester in Algebra II AA

Tenth: B/B in Pre-Calculus AA
B first semester in Chemistry. I placed highly in a regional contest which I’m sure my teacher mentioned in his rec, so maybe that made the B matter less.

Eleventh: B first semester in AP Calculus BC

Twefth: C in AP Physics C. Dear G-d in Heaven, don’t let me get rescinded.

So, six B’s.

^Did you go to a ridiculously top school?

^ I’m guessing MIT b/c this is the MIT forum

^I think Quantum means ridiculously top high school.

@ Quantum: No, I did not. If anyone here considers public school rankings to matter at all, and I don’t think anyone does, Newsweek and USNWR always put my school somewhere between 30 and 70 in their rankings.

One of the admissions officers really liked one of my essays - liked it enough to tell me that he did - so I always sort of think that’s why I got in. shrug
