Poll: What math sequence were you in for school?

I don’t like masterus.

7th: Pre-Algebra
8th: Algebra I
9th: Geometry
10th: Algebra II/PreCalc
11th: Calculus BC/AP Stat
12th: Multivar Calc/Linear Algebra/Discrete Math/Differential Equations/Independent Study Analysis

What’s funny is, I haven’t seen a single person say they’ve taken an Analysis course, which means all of you are completely ****ed and will have to learn most of the stuff you’ve learned in your “ZOMG ADVANCED MATH COURSE” all over again.

“Advanced” Math Person: I know more math than you – LOOK, MY HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT SAYS SO!
“Less Advanced” Person: Oh really. Prove the Fundamental Theory of the Calculus.
“Advanced” Math Person: Uhh… well, the book says so… and it usually works out… so it must be true.

Really, most of the people who have taken MVC,LA,DiffEq,etc. can’t even prove that the natural numbers are unbounded.

The truth is, 99.9999% of high schoolers don’t know the slightest thing about real mathematics. We’re all about equal in our ignorance. You only become knowledgeable in mathematics in college.

6th - Algebra 1
7th - Geometry
8th - Algebra 2
9th - Pre Calc.
10th - Calc.

What about the 0.0001%? What will they know? What is your definition of “knowledgeable in mathematics”? How mathematically-adept should a high schooler be in order to satisfy your definition of “knowledgeable in mathematics”? What do you mean by " ‘Advanced’ " and " ‘Less Advanced’ " in your anecdote? At what math level are they?

Just wondering. :D

7th- calc BC
8th- mv calc/intro to diffEQ
9th- intro to proofs/linear algebra
10th- real analysis/point-set topology
11th- abstract algebra/number theory
12th- still deciding

in all honesty, math levels don’t mean anything. so you get a little ahead when you’re younger, big deal…anyone can do it with effort and motivation. its what you do with the next 40 years of your life that counts.

alg 1
geometry
alg 2

that is all

6th grade - Pre-Algebra

12th–AP Calc BC

In Florida you only have to have complete Algebra I to graduate high school. Most people get through at least Algebra II.

not me, but my friend

6th: alg 2
7th: pre calc

9th: multi variable calc
10th: ap stats and some math course at comm college
11th: idk some crazy math course at comm college i think

hes a super math nerd.

In the most advanced math track mys chool offers
6th: Pre Algebra
7th: Algebra I
8th Geometry
9th: Algebra II
10th: Precal
11th: BC Calc
12th: Stats (would rather continue with Calc III though…bleh)

Haha. I used to know how to prove the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, but then forgot. A day later.

I know where the proof is in the book, though.

It’s actually funny, since I’ve gotten As in Calc III, DiffEq, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, and Graph Theory but don’t remember any of it. I blame it on NetHack. :D

9th- Differential equations
10th-???
11th-???
12th-???

I haven’t decided if I want to do another university math next year.

I never did linear algebra or multivariable calculus. For some reason, after AP Calculus BC I was recommended for Differential equations.

7th Pre Alg
