Polytechnic university and NYU merger

Hello,

Basic academic profile -

GPA - 3.8

SAT:-

Critical Reading…540
Math…700
Writing… 530

I’m an international student. I’ve been admitted into polytechnic university, Brooklyn (for BS physics and Maths)with a scholarship of $20,000/yr (The total cost, including living expenses is estimated at $43,000).

Now, due to some reasons, I need to defer the admission to the next semester (Fall 2008)…and it seems that, meanwhile, NYU is acquiring Polytechnic university.

And, meanwhile, I’ve also rewrote the SAT and scored the following:-

Critical Reading…570
Math…690
Writing… 680

What does this acquisition and my scores mean to the following:-

The quality of education in the next semester
My new scholarship per year

By the way, does the acquisition mean that things in Poly are going to change drastically?

Regards.

Polytechnic is a fine institution, it shouldn’t change anything drastically. The fact that my father teaches at both has no impact on my opinion. :P

Uhm let me guess… your father is a CS professor huh? I had him my first and second semesters.

No… was that supposed to be a joke?

I wonder how this merger would affect ACCEPTANCE requirements. Polytechnic has an average SAT Critical Reading and Math score (combined) of 1150, while NYU has an average SAT combined of above 1300.

How is this merger going to work in terms of acceptance requirements ? Will it pull the level down, or up ?

Different schools of NYU have different admissions scores. My guess is that the engineering aspect of Polytechnic will have different admissions profiles…and could rise by its affiliation with NYU.

Selectivity will surely rise because there are going to be more applicants. Currently, most of the students are from the New York area, but its affiliation with NYU will lead to applicants from all over the country.

Perhaps admission to Poly will remain separate from the rest of NYU. Maybe you’ll have to apply directly to the engineering school?

The concerns that you have cannot be answered by CC. You need to contact Polytech and ask them directly how will deferring for a semester will affect your scholarship.

If you do not enroll this spring will you lose the scholarship?

If you come to school next year and the cost of attendance increases, will your scholarship increase accordingly.

Is your scholarship automatically renewable for the next 4 years.

What are the GPA/enrollment/credit requirements for keeping your scholarship.

By any chance is he Evan Gallagher, lol
